w-i-d-e waxed paper

i have looked around a bit, but can't find what i am looking for locally ..
does anyone know if they make waxed paper that is wider than the standard household roll ?

i am finally getting around to making a back for my 11x14 camera and the testpiece of waxed paper ( instead of ground glass ) works amazingly well.
i have a 14x14 hole in the back of the camera and i was going to make a 11x14 + 7x11 back for it ( the paper holders are being made either tonight or tomorrow ) ... and i would rather have one piece of waxed paper insted of a few ...

my local restaurant supply didn't have the paper ... any suggestions where i might get some ?

Presuming you can't find such a thing at your local butcher, deli, or fishmarket, how about just getting a large sheet of thin paper and waxing it? It's easy enough to find paraffin wax at a hardware store or grocery store in some areas.

really big trace paper i have, but haven't tried as an imaged-viewer yet
i guess i could wax paper myself ( forgot about that ... )

As an alternative to ground glass, I have used textured polyester or polycarbonate as used for the graphic layers of membrane switches or labels.

Any local screen printer who does this sort of work would be able to supply some.

The company I work for (Parlex) has a factory in Newport, RI but does not do their own graphic printing. They use a company called Serigraphic in Boston but there may well be similar companies closer to you.

The product is either General Electric fine textured polycarbonate or Autotype F200 polyester (or equivalents). They are only 0.2mm thick but when held rigidly in a frame are quite robust and flat. We buy it in sheets 24" x 36"

If you are interested but can't find anything locally, I could post some to you.

When you do your search, look for Membrane Switch Manufacturers and Nameplate/Label printers as a search for screen printers will turn up 99% 'T' shirt printing companies.

How about just a sheet of polycarbonate and some fine grit sand paper? You can get it up to 4x8 foot sheets at many building supply places. You might also try a sheet of inkjet printable overhead projection material, this might have enough "texture" to give you an image (which is why many of the inkjet OHP materials do not work as an internegative). Check an office supply store for the OHP material.

Pictorico makes a translucent film for inkjet printers that might be useful. It is intended for making backlit digital transparencies or prints. Depending on how opaque it is it might be ideal.

BTW, I think this might be neat and very ironic using a digital product for a very good purpose in analog photography.

in my varied and long search for things to use as
a focusing screen ( on the cheep that is ) i was also
turned on to getting a material used for window tint.
