I haven't been to Vancouver, BC, Canada for several years now...what galleries show photography?

I remember the Diane Farris Gallery was basically the only commercial gallery of note that showed some photography, Presentation House showed Canada Council supported traveling exhibitions, and the Heffel (sp) Gallery only sold photographs by photographers who were dead and gone...

To slow down the flood of responces  I should say I'm more interested in galleries that would represent b&w LF nature photographers, and not just the 'cutting edge contemporary' photographers.

Murray,

You might want to check out Exposure Gallery on Beatty St. Also I saw a really great photo exhibit at the Library right next to the children's section on the ground floor.
Sometimes the exhibtion space at the Planetarium on Chestnut St. has photography shows. Just google the Vancouver Sun and the arts section online and I bet you'll find all kinds of stuff going on.

Good luck!

Murray:

They are non-profit, but I would suggest Presentation House would be a great contact and information source, because Photography is all they do:

Gallery in Vancouver

As memory serves, I've got a portfolio presentation in with PHG in Vancouver and am still waiting to hear from them.
Seem like it isn't that easy to get representation unless you are famous...but how can one's work get known lest people start carrying it.
Anyway they might be one avenue to check.

Are you thinking one-man show or a collaborative effort?

Hi kate, Matt, and Bob...thanks for responding.

I'm 'quite a few months' from being ready to contact any galleries...just sniffing out the possibilities for now.

On the Presentation House Gallery site I found, "One of the Gallery's primary objectives is to support new, experimental approaches to the medium of photography", and, "PHG's exhibition programme is largely invitational". Not exactly words of welcome to me and my images...

I think I'd prefer a commercial gallery who's owner is enthusiastically motivated to sell as many of my images as possible, thereby catapulting my prices into the stratosphere and providing a comfortable retirement for the both of us, rather than a Board of Directors and a Curator who spend half their time fishing for funding

On a serious note...at 45 I feel I have a cohesive body of work and could pull off a one person show, but realize I'm an unknown so the chances are slim-to-none. I'm also prepared to wait a while for the right opportunity be it a group show, solo exhibition, or to seek out farther flung galleries. I've had three seperate solo shows with up to 40 prints in local museums, but the last one was 10 years ago and not of a high enough quality for real galleries. That's where I'm at now...(after a while out of the game)...ratcheting up the quality.

Thanks again.

Murray
