Life is amazing.

I'm now in the LF club.

At my camera club meeting tonight I picked up a Calumet 4x5, with dark cloth, changing bag, 2 cable releases, 12-15 film holders, 50 sheets of Provia 100, and a Linhof Schneider-Kreuznach Technika Symmar 1:5,6/150 1:12/265.

$100, hope I didn't get taken. :D

Behind the lens board on the barrel it's marked 12/265. All the 12/265 markings are in green and the 5,6/150 stuff is in white.

What have I really got?

Hell of a good deal.Iv'e got the same lens. Its normal for a 4X5, and has fare coverage of 4X5. My lens is not a technica, but does have the option of either focal lenth.

Fare coverage on a 4x5 beats full coverage on 35mm right?

I thought MF would be my step up from 35mm, silly me.

Well off to bed to dream very big dreams.

It's a convertible lens. Use the full lens and it's a 150. Take off the front [I think it's the front on the Symar] and it's the longer focal length.

If the camera is in good shape just the camera is worth about what you paid. So all the other stuff is a bonus

I like your tag line.

My wife likes 11x14 prints but she's starting to think larger, hmmm...

How would you like to pay for the 4x5 enlarger you'll be buying from me?:D:D

My wife bought a lotto ticket Wednesday, we haven't checked the numbers yet, would you consider a trade?

Nothing personal, but why would I want a wife when I am a free agent?

I get home at night and

  1. I know when to take out the trash.
  2. I am no longer stupid.
  3. I am always right.
  4. Life is wonderful.

As long as I listen to my wife and do what she says all 4 points are true for me too.

When I listen especially well she tells me to go get the checkbook and buys me a 4x5.

On a more serious note I'm not quite ready for the enlarger just yet, but what can I expect to pay if I'm patient?

Or you can do what those of us who do not have the space for a 4x5 enlarger do and contact print them. I print my 35mm as 4x6", I print my MF as 5x5", and I contact print my 4x5". I have had 3 4x5 enlargers offered to me in the past year, but I have no space for one in the small bathroom I use as a darkroom.

Contacts are great and I'll probably start there.

My daughter though will be going off to college this fall so space will be growing.

You are already at a cross roads. Buy the enlarger (out here in the bay area a MX45 goes for around 125 bucks) or do contact prints. Trade that puppy in on a 5x7 camera, a 191mm Commercial Ektar and some bigger developing trays.

Nah, have a good time, learn if you like LF or not, contact print (and try Cyanotypes) and be prepared to be amazed.
