Doesn't get any more "cool" than this subforum.

Even the single posted thread here has nary a response!

No talk means those little old Leica screwmounts are being fondled too much (bad) or being used to make pictures (good).

Which is it?

More evidence that splitting the RF forum wasn't a great idea.

Give it time, give it time.

My only remaining screw-mount Leica doesn't get used any more because it's worn out. It's been to several serious Leica repairers and no-one can keep it going for more than a roll or two. It winds on OK, then the shutter hangs up open. Wind on, it may be OK for a few shots, or it may not.

It's the first Leica I ever bought, a IIIa from 1936, and it was around 35 years old when I bought it. I used it quite hard for a decade or more; then used it less; then found it had this problem.

If it still worked, it would still be my 'go in a pocket' camera. But nothing lasts forever.

Cheers,

Roger (www.rogerandfrances.com)

Roger - R.I.P., at least your little IIIa had a long and honorable life.

Can't say that about the new O-serie I just picked up....to be MY go-anywhere, absolutely-no-frills, nothing-can-ever-go-wrong, supremely-simple camera. It is counting frames randomly rather than successively and 3 of the 5 focal-plane speeds regularly burn the trailing vertical negative edge. It's now in the hands of the official Solms O-Elf, whom I trust will put it right to carry on the journey your IIIa has given up.

Bruce

God, I'm getting sentimental over this thing and it doesn't even work, yet.
