The Olympus Trip 35 is a delightful camera, but it doesn't offer full manual control, so you will silhouette your subject when the background is bright. And you'll overexpose the subject when the background is dark.
I've devised a way to get manual control of the two shutterspeeds in the Trip 35 (and Pen EE cameras). You turn the camera upside-down to get high-speed. And you still have manual control of the aperture, giving you complete manual control of the camera. Here's a website I just created showing in detail how to make this modification:

Hope you like it!

I had seen various ways to modify the Trip to allow manual selection of shutter speeds. But considering how easy it is to lock the exposure, along with the fact that the Trip consistently takes great pictures, there never seemed to be a point to it.

The sites I've seen show how to modify it to give only 1/200th sec. My mod gives you both 1/40 and 1/200, manually selectable.

I like to use one setting for sun and another for shade, and make adjustments for situations like covered shade. I have more confidence in this method than the simple auto-feature.

Mark,

Interesting mod. And i really like the fact that you are describing each step with detailed pictures.

You will surely receive lots of good feedback around the world.

I like the Olympus Trip 35 very much, sadly the front element coating seems to be very sensitive to the humid climate of my city; ALL samples of the Oly 35 i've found have damaged front coatings, which i have been unable to repair even by mechanical polishing (perhaps I need to apply more force...)

But it is a very very good camera.
