The updated mailing order is here-- (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Sorry for the long delay, folks, but Round 3 is finally getting off the ground TODAY.

I'll be picking up a second portfolio at B&H today, and we'll be splitting into two groups, one headed more or less East and one headed more or less West, and there will be room to add new participants along the way, so I hope we won't have such a long waiting list this time around.

I've sent out e-mails or PMs to people on the waiting list or people who haven't been around APUG lately to confirm participation. I've also sent a PM or e-mail to participants for whom we are missing information--name, address, and phone number. The list as I have it includes (not in any particular order)--

Mrcallow
Ole Tjungen
Clay Harmon
Chuck Pere
Lee Carmichael
Nigel Smith
Ed Sukach
Aggie
Chris Glanton
David A. Goldfarb
Joe Lipka
Sean Ross
Tom Sauerwein
Robert Kennedy
Jim Chinn
Jorge Gasteazoro
Carl Radford
toddstew
nsurit
liza
nicole
PhotoPete
Alex Hawley
Rlibersky
gr82bart
phong
kwmullet
David Vickery
John McCallum
matt miller
Bruce (Camclicker)
GradyO
Mike Troxell
Gay Larson
John Zdral
wfe
Mick Fagan

If you're on this list and wish to withdraw, please let me know, and if you've got a print in the portfolio, we'll make arrangements to get it back to you.

If you've sent me an e-mail or PM and I've missed it, or if you want to join, please send me a PM.

Meanwhile, please ignore the address list on the Portfolio secure page--that's out of date.

Okay, I might wait a few days before posting the new lists, since confirmations, updates, and withdrawals are still coming in, but the portfolios will go out in tomorrow's mail.

First up for Portfolio #1 is Carl Radford.

Bruce (Camclicker) already has given me his submission for Portfolio #2, so next up is wfe.

Case has arrived!

The case has arrived - well it was delivered to the neighbours yesterday and I got it tonight. Unfortunately we leave for 5 days holiday in the morning but will ensure it is sorted and on its way as soon as I return!

All the best, Carl

I'll be posting that shortly. Still waiting for a few confirmations. For the moment, I've got one going from New York eastward to the UK, Scandinavia, Europe, Australia, and back around to the US, and the second moving around the Northeast US and then westward across North America to New Zealand, and back.

I'm trying to balance level of experience, international participation, alt-process and traditional, and postage costs. In regions where there is a high number of participants (particularly Texas and the Northeast), I'm trying to make it work out that both portfolios pass through the region, so that if people want to have gatherings to see the portfolios, they can see both.

I haven't had a chance to post the new address list, but meanwhile here is the order I've worked out for the moment--

Portfolio I
David A. Goldfarb
Carl Radford
liza
Ole
Mick Fagan
nicole
Aggie
ronlamarsh
Lee sitting out this round
kwmullet
David Vickery
Jim Chinn
Alex Hawley
Joe Lipka out next round
chuckp
JD Callow sitting out this round
Markus Albertz
gbenaim sitting out this round

Portfolio II
Bruce (Camclicker)
wfe
PhotoPete
gr82bart
phong Sitting out this round
Ed Sukach
matt miller
rlibersky
nsurit
Gay Larson
Robert Kennedy lost contact
toddstew
JohnZ
John McCallum
Sean
Matthew Gorringe
Mattg

I'm thinking possibly of not posting the address list. Meanwhile, I've been just PM'ing the next person to confirm and give them the combo, and this is working quite well to insure the smooth transfer of the portfolio, reconfirm the address, and be sure that the next person will be there to receive it. This also gives us more flexibility to tweak the order as we go, to add or remove participants en route, switch things around when someone is going on vacation, etc. I can't post the list directly, so I'd rather not bother Sean about it while he's got other things to manage. The address list is on a password protected page, but maybe for security reasons, it's better anyway not to have it on the site. If anyone has any strong feelings about this either way, let me know.

Right now Carl Radford has Portfolio I, and PhotoPete has Portfolio II. gr82bart and Liza have reconfirmed and are awaiting the portfolios.

Portfolio on its way to Liza...

Posted this afternoon via Royal Mail Airsure ref: LY 2020 5758 1GB.

Whilst the portfolio was pretty thin there are many stunning images that are a joy to hold, inspire and admire. Can't wait for it to come back round again!

All the best, Carl

Thanks for confirming, Carl. Yes, right now, with quite a few new participants and having split the portfolio into two, the portfolios are thinner starting into the third round, but it will fill up before it comes back.

David,
I will need to be removed from the portfolio's travels. I am certain to no longer be in Ferndale when it is my turn to receive the goods, and don't have my new address as of yet.

John, you're so far down the list, you'll probably have your mortgage paid off by the time the portfolio comes around. Just send me your new info when you have it, and I'll fit you back in wherever it makes sense.

Another update--Phong is in the middle of moving right now, and gr82bart has Portfolio II, so we'll catch Phong on the next round, and Ed Sukach is up next.

Mike Troxell hasn't checked into APUG for over a year, and his last post on the LF forum was some time in 2005, and I've e-mailed him, so unless I hear from him soon, I think we'll have to assume that he's no longer in contact, and Ed will be followed by Matt Miller.

You get your print back! The portfolio just keeps going, and when it comes back again, you take your old print out and put a new one in. If you want to give it away, you can use it for the Blind Print Exchange, when it comes back.

The reason the portfolio is a bit thin right now is that we have a lot of new participants and a few from the last round dropped out, and we've split into two portfolios.

I just came out of the darkroom from printing my addition to the portfolio. I'm looking forward to being a part of it.

And Ed's confirmed, so Portfolio II seems to be moving at record speed.

I've updated the FAQ to reflect the fact that we're no longer using the secure page to post the address list, and I've asked Sean to remove the old secure page. It's working much better for me just to keep the list and reconfirm participation and addresses as the portfolios move along, and we also don't have to worry about anyone hacking the address list.

Seems like a nightmarish situation has occurred not with the APUG Traveling Portfolio, but with the Acutance.com Travelling Exhibition (formerly at f32.net), wherein one participant has gotten stuck with $240 in shipping fees so far and perhaps more to come, so to avoid that circumstance, I've updated the FAQ thusly--

Q: What method of shipping should I use? Should I insure the portfolio?
A: Use a carrier that offers the best compromise between shipping time and cost. It is not necessary to send the portfolio overnight or to use a costly courier or express service.

Do not insure the portfolio or declare a high value for customs when shipping internationally, or the recipient may be assessed a high duty to receive the portfolio, and will justifiably not accept it, and then the carrier may charge you a return shipping fee. This has not happened with the APUG Traveling Portfolio, but it did happen with a similar project on another site.
