I processed two rolls tonight, one shot through a Pentax Spotmatic II with yellow filters on the lenses save for the 24 wideangle. I used Rodinal at 1:50 for 12 minutes as per digital truth and I found them muddy. Now in the exact same tank I had a roll of the same film that went through a Nikon F with a polariser on its 105 2.5 and 50 1.4 lenes of course compensating for the stops with the handheld meter. I found most of the shots on the "Nikon" roll had more pop to it. What gives? Was it lighting that day?

It could have been the lighting, the boat photo you posted is too contrasty in the people. it could have bben the polarizer, the lenses. why did you need to use a polarizer that day? it wasent working on the water thatwell

Good grief I have so much of the Classic Pan 400 in 8x10 and 5x7, hundreds of sheets that I bought last year, I hope it wasn't a mistake. Rodinal 1:50 12 minutes? I am doing Rollei Pan 25 at 15 minutes and Ilford Pan F at EI 40 for 15 minutes. in Rodinal 1:50.

I just looked at my notes and found that the Classic Pan 400 120 roll film that I shot in Paris last November was developed in Rodinal 1:50 for 12 minutes and I have a note that I should go to 14 minutes. I used a Mamiya 645 with 80mm and 150mm lens.

Could be the lighting, could be the Nikon glass vs. Pentax. I shoot lots of Classic 400, no contrast problems. I develop it in ABC pyro, Acufine, and occasionally RAF Pyro-Metol.

I too have an excessive supply of Classic Pan 400 in 35mm rolls. I've tried it in Acufine, Aculux-2, D-23 and HC-110 (dilutions B, D and H). All seem to give acceptable results. I like acufine the best so far but I want ot give D-23 with various alkaline afterbaths (a la Barry Thornton) a few more trials. This combination looks promissing.

I have shot a lot of Classic 400 in 120 Rollfim (rollfilm backs on view camera), 5x7 sheet film and 8x10 sheet film. I have seen no contrast problems. I developed it all in Pyrocat-HD (with either minimal agitation or Semi-Stand agitation). I use Semi-Stand agitation for its microcontrast characteristics. Glass was Apo-Nikkor, Schneider G-Claron and Schneider SS-XL.

Follow up to my third roll of Classicpan

I followed the manufacturers instructions of 14 minutes instead of 12 on Digital Truth for Classicpan 400 and it looks to be a much better roll this time out. A little longer in the oven they say.

I shot the roll through a Nikon F2 using pre AI glass a Nikkor 50 f1.4 and a Nikkor O 35 F2 lens with a Tiffen Deep yellow filter on it. I will post pictures when the negs are dry.

Now to put this thread to bed, I am really happy with the results of last nights processing, I figured out the problem and I ordered 20 rolls of classicpan 400 this morning. I am happy.
