Hi Apuggers

I received the new edition of B&W Photography 2 days ago and found great articles (as always, but this month is just better ).

The first I read was about stop bath and fixing. The difference between acid stop/fix and alkaline stop/fix is discussed throroughly. Great to have this explained once and for all.

The second article discusses split grading in a very good way. I am heading for the DR tomorrow to try a bit of this.

Thanks Ailsa for bringing us the best B&W mag in the world!

Morten many thanks for the reminder! I'll have to check if it's at the local newsagent yet. Looking forward to seeing the new format and the effect of the higher quality paper stock.

Ailsa do I get Brownie points for mentioning the exciting changes and as Morten says it's the number one for photographers

Lots of Brownie points! In fact, I award you the PR & Marketing badge. I'll speak to Brown Owl about it at the next meeting. (You'll need to get your Mum to sew it on though...)

I got it a few days ago too, and it's a great magazine.

This time, however, there was one article I didn't like at all: A blue print doth not a blueprint make!

I just picked up the December issue at Barnes and Noble...the one with the article about Cheryl and the developer comparison Les wrote (yes...the other stuff was also quite good, but ya gotta go with the folks ya know first...well...kinda know). I look forward to the January issue with all its changes in February when I can again go to B&N and drink overpriced coffee with a waaaaay too fattening piece of sweet stuff and read all the mags I can't subscribe to.

The best thing about the magazine, for me at least, is that, while acknowledging the the value and advancement of digital, it's does not seem to be shilling for the manufacturers and hyping BRAND NEW!! LATEST!! trends in photography, loudly in every issue. It's the way I'm much more agreeable to being 'taught'....in small, cogent, sensible lessons without being made to feel I've missed the boat if I don't run out and buy something I didn't particularly want before I read the magazine.

Well done, Ailsa et.al.

Yes you are! I love this magazine. I would like to also throw in my thanks to Ailsa and the great staff across the pond. I look forward to getting my issue in a couple weeks when it makes its way over here.

I really find Les Mclean's comparison between Rodinal and Pyro interesting. It's an incredible difference between them.
I got issue 1 of Black & White Photography by chance and have been buying it ever since and I am still thrilled when the latest issue hits the newsstand. How do you keep up the high quality ? I doubted you could do it when you went from 6 to 12 issue a year but you really did and still do, amazing. I look forward to see the new facelifted Mag
Maybe we could make a Black & White Photography quiz. "in which issue......."

Looks like the time zones are having more of an effect than I thought. Keep your eyes open folks as the January edition is now out and in the new format

As my late shift turned into a sleep-over shift last night I had loads of time to look through it. For me the quality feels much richer and the pictures are even better reproduced than before (... which is amazing as I thought they looked great before the change).

Still finding my way around the new format but again much slicker. As Morten said the split grading article is really interesting. I don't bother reading the digital bits as I know my way around PS but have no interest in that side anymore.

Now all we need are some more articles from Les to make it really perfect

I know, but it takes a week or so before it hits my local newsstand, you know, oxcart and so forth  Now I'm dying to read that article. If all goes well I have it tomorrow

January will surely be in US booksellers soon, my subbed copy came over the past weekend in California.

The "distilled water spritz" is certainly a new one to me...
