I just received my stereo lens assembies from ebay. I plan on making my own camera with them. Here they are.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150029690652
I also saw, on another forum I believe, someone built a stereo camera out of the same setup as the ones I have but put three assemblies on one camera, a total of six lenses!:surprised:
Anyway, has anyone had experiance building a stereo camera and could possibly point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

These came from a Revere stereo camera, or actualy were designed to go into one. The are made to produce an image on 35mm film, and I don't think that the image circle is large enough for anything larger. I've not built anything that small, but I am working on a 5x7 stereo camera and I have a number of different stereo camera that I use regularly. You might want to ask around on the Yahoo! groups film3d and photo3d. Film3d is, as it sounds, just film stereo photography subjects, but the photo3d is both film and digital (mostly digital these days). I know that there are some people there who have built stereo cameras and that they are usually open to helping others with similar projects. Keep us informed on how it's going!

Here is a stereo camera built with three assemblies. The same models as mine.
Dead Link Removed
The guy writes that he has to load the camera in total darkness and that in a typical 36 roll of 35mm he get either 4 or five photos from the entire roll.
I think he gets them developed or at least printed at Snap 3D. They say they will print anything from a 2 lens camera up to 5 lens setup, I think.
Interesting huh?

I've gone a whole different route to make a stereo 3D camera.

Pair of identical MF TLRs on a modified Bogen slide-bar. Ends up being slightly hyper-stereo. I fire it with a pair of cable releases, so it's not very suitable for something moving really fast. But fine for portraits and landscapes and still-lifes.

Clunky to use, but it does work fine. And since I had the two TLRs just kicking around, I'm not in it very deep, $-wise.

As long as your subject is static, a slide bar works great. I've got one of those Bogen slide bars and it works quite well for things like architecture and natural features.

Seems like they would work just fine. But if you want to shoot, say a waterfall, then you would need both lenses in sync. I would like to try the slide bar though.

There is a yahoo group called camera hackers which deals mostly with stereo camera construction.

For what it's worth, I've often thought that the revere lens sets would make a good 126 format stereo camera (2 cartridges loaded side by side) since 126 is square format (i.e. comparable lens coverage to the revere) and also because the 126 cartridge has a lot of engineering built in that can simplify your homemade camera design. This would mean that any place that can print from 126 could print your pictures. Realist users don't have it so fortunate if they want prints.
