Hello all, i'm pretty new around here. I used to spend my time over at pn but much prefer it over here.
I've recently picked up a Sandmar FX1200 plate burner in great condition for around $100 and have been trying some cyanotypes and enlarged 8x10 negatives. The results are pretty okay, even good sometimes.
I do think I need a new bulb (GW 114) because my exposures are usually in the 700 unit range (!!)..
To make my life easier, I also picked up a used Kodak Photographic Step Tablet No. 3/Calibrated. I figured that one generally places the stepwedge above the negative and paper and exposes for an even amount of time, then selecting the appropriate step and determining the actual time.. Really though, i'm not sure if that's how i'm supposed to do it. Any advice?
Also, could I use this calibrated strip and my eyes as a rough guide for calibrating my film times, etc. ? What density is average/normal?
