Hi,

Are there any places in the US that specialize in CLA/shutter repair for a Pacemaker Speed Graphic? I've seen one locally that has some shutter speeds that are slow and would love to get things fixed.

Thanks,

Mark

Check out their site; tehy enven have a graphic being repaired on their opening pate. Send them an email and they'll quickly return a price. Mention my name and who knows what will happen.

The between-the-lens shutter can be serviced by any competent camera repairman. As Jon says, the focal plane shutter is simple, and can usually be serviced by anyone with moderate mechanical skills and a few basic tools. For detailed information try to locate the Army manual TM 11-2352. These occasionally appear on ebay and online booksellers. Prices vary: patience saves money. My 1950 version covers Pacemaker and Anniversary models. One time-saving tip: mark the position of the shutter curtain before disassembly so you reassemble it without trial and error. The Pacemaker series uses a governor for some of the focal plane shutter speeds. This governor can give problems with those speeds.

Do you really care to have the vintage lens/shutter? Because I would recommend upgrading to a more modern shutter and lens.

The vintage lenses often perform very well and tend to have good character.

What other Brian said,
For some of us the use of old lenses adds a touch of magic to photography
