I now have great determination to finish the counter with sink in my studio!

This site has been great with some sound advice as well as being able to follow threads like the recent one by Laz127 and his KISS and Pyro principles.

So I took the advice of several Jobo guys and bit the bullet and got a 3006 (still hurting from that one), and got some great advice/instructions from Per Volquartz on Rollo Pyro development, bought chems from Bostic and Sullivan.

Four of the six negs were made with a FREE lens from John Stafford. He posted a question about it on the LFinfo forum and ended up just giving it to me! The lens happens to be a Peck Rapid Rectilinear. My last name is Peck and I can't believe I'm shooting with a lens that actually has my name on it. I used a pillow as the shutter but now think I need a packard

The developing went great and I'm really feeling excited about the whole process of making photos and wanted to share my experiences with you all. I look forward to getting my money's worth from that damn Jobo as well as making contact prints of all these 5x7s I'm shooting. Cyanotypes I think.

I honestly think I wouldn't have gotten so far so fast without this site and the people I've met here. Thanks.

Alan.

That is great news. And believe me the JOBO is well worth the investment.

I am also happy that APUG has become such a good resource for you. That is really what this site is all about, working together to improve our craft, share ideas and promote traditional photography.

I have been using the Jobo 2500 system with generally horrible results and have been wanting to get the Expert tank, but gosh they are pricy. I am not sure, but I suspect that the problems I am having are related to using a unicolor base rather than a Jobo system with the tank. What are you using as a base?

I have also been thinking about the BTZS tubes, but I just can't seem to decide. In addition, I need to scare up some more money somewhere!

Paul,

I'm using a Beseler base that has a switch to reverse direction (recommended by shmoo) and that worked out great. Then again I have no other point of reference.

I think that is about the same as a Unicolor, isn't it? Mine automatically reverses direction about at each revolution, which might be the problem. Of course, the reels on teh 2500 series are not as good as the expert drum by a long site, so that is likely an issue as well. Does yours reverse only when you flip the switch?

I have a friend stopping by tomorrow with a bunch of roller bases and such from her high school, I will see if one of them will provide more rotation before reversing direction.

Alan.

Alan, PM me the dimensions of your lens and I'll make you a black polarfleece lens sock/shutter (See my APUG gallery). They also double as a lens storage container. I owe you one for the lens boards.

Paul,
My base only reverses when I switch it. I tried to switch it every 30 secs more or less.

Tom,
SWEET! I love Karma

My Pyro chemicals have arrived and I'll be into it ASAP. A Jobo! Please don't give me the excuse to spend any more money; I'm already well into next year's photo budget!

For comparison: my Jobo CPE-2 reverses direction every approx 2.2 revolutions (rotating at 70-80 rpm). This prevents liquids from building up a flow pattern as the 25xx series tubes spin for more than a few seconds.

Cheers, Bob.
