Hi
My name is Simon and I work at ILFORD Photo / HARMAN technology in the UK, I am an APUG member and frequent the forums to hopefully help fellow APUG members with information etc, and the APUG members help me with lots of product requests and feedback etc.
I have read a few notes on threads about the Silver conference which along with Calumet we are sponsoring, to be held in Pasedena, March 3rd to the 5th. Some of the notes are negative, now thats OK, but I thought a bit of feedback from us may contribute to the debate. It seems to be mostly about the cost of attendance at $ 300 : So I just wanted to clear up a few things if thats OK, firstly $ 300 is a lot of money, no denying that, and since photography is not the cheapest activity ( or passion as I prefer to call it ) its more cost, and of course there is travel and accomodation BUT APUG members do get a $ 50 discount, so to you its $ 250
Most importantly it is a non-profit making show, designed to support and promote the whole of the photo community using traditional methods, and who intend to continue doing so, neither ILFORD Photo or CALUMET will make a cent, if we fill the venue and there is any money left over it will go back into photo education by helping sponsor or support a student on a photography course who would not normally be able to afford to attend.
We could have made it a lot cheaper by not having the number or quality of speakers, we believed that if people were going to travel to Pasedena from all over the States ( and from outside the US ) they would want to see and hear the best, we have 8 World class presenters including the likes of John Sexton and Marissa Roth , for the full details of SILVER go to www.calumetphoto.com and see the link to the silver conference, there you will find the full agenda. We also have a competition running where you can win prizes if you bring your images.
I know the effort that has been put in here ( and the people themselves) and at CALUMET to make it a great success, I am also hoping to attend, but I am committed to the APUG conference in Toronto as well, so if you go I may see you, if not, I will definitely be at APUG Toronto, thanks for taking the time to read this note. If you have any questions or feedback please reply and I will answer it or ensure it is passed on.
