By any chance, does anybody have a couple of short (5-6" length) of rack gear lying about? I KNOW I have some, somewhere among my 2 storage units and workshop, but so far they've been quite elusive.

that stuff is too expensive to just leave laying around. What you are looking for can be found at Small Machine Parts (I think that's what it is called). You're going to pay about $40 for that brass.

Hey, wait until I get home and see if I can dig up some!

I used to have brand new, racks (about 3 to 4 inches long, as I remember) and pinions and brass frames I bought for some project that escapes me now.

If I find them, and I seem to remember I have at least 5 sections of rack and maybe equal pinions, I would be agreeable to a trade or whatever.

actually, brass would be overkill, it's just a little quickie 8x10 camera, nothing special. Worst case, I'll order some nylon gears and rack from sdp-si.

now you have me all curious.

A quickie 8x10 camera? I'd love to see the design and results. We looked at nylon rack and pinion too. They're light and durable. We only chose brass for ours for the asthetic appeal

Oh, sorry guys I only have 90 of these, hardly enough for a Sunday project! ;-)

All kidding aside, I had no idea I had such a plentiful supply of racks. I had tucked them away in the event I ever get that set of Gingery machine tools constructed.

I took some very quick and nasty images, what digital is best suited for, and here they are. Looks like you could shift the Bismark with these dudes...

I hope the ruler gives you the information you need; thoughtfully supplied in both SAE and Metric! ;-)

Check out the two assemblies with rollers, frames, pinions, wheels and misc. I really don't know what they did in the first place, but they are very well made. I only have two of these complete assemblies...

As I said before, if anyone wants one or two, send me a PM and we can haggle; I seem to have enough to spare a few...

*******************************************************

UPDATE: I will sell these for $5 per rack if you want one or $20 per 5 (limit 5 per person IF there is too great a demand).

For the complete frames, if they are available when you read this, I would like $15 each.

If you are under 18 and want a rack or two, you can have it for postage.

If you are in a hard stretch and need one, I will give you one or two for the cost of postage.

Think of it this way; I plan to pay my subscription dues to APUG with the sales, so it is for a good cause! Anything left over and I will donate another 20% as well to APUG.

As always on the Net (at least with me), first come, first serve.
