Series filter adapters

I own a 375mm Ilex-Caltar lens on a No. 5 Ilex Universal Synchro shutter and am looking for a source for slip on filter adapters for this lens. Many of you probably know that these older lenses are not threaded to accept filters directly. I believe these adapters are called "Series" adapter and are numbered according to the O.D. of the lens barrel. I hope someone knows a source for these, and thanks in advance for any leads you can give.

I can't find that they are made any more. I have gotten mine over the years at camera shows and eBay. If there is a source of new ones, I hope somebody knows and chimes in.

Use the search terms "series filter adapter" on ebay. There is a guy (I can't recall his seller ID right now, but you'll know it when you find his listing) who has a wide variety of them (NOS) at good price. I think it was around $5 each. He was still on ebay about two weeks ago. I've bought from him and was happy customer.

Series filters and adapters are getting a little harder to find lately.
You're going to need a slip-on filter, and either Series Vll or Vlll.
The size you need is based on one thing, the outside diameter of the lens. The way a slip-on was measured was simply O.D. of the lens & what size filter cleared the optic. So 1 3/8">Series 7 would be typical.
Series Vll are about 52mm in diameter and Series 8 is 61mm. Neither are threaded and simply drop into the adapter and are held in place by a retaining ring.

Two thoughts:

1. The company that used to have the most complete line of series adapters is Tiffen.

see photo 7 an older series 9 adapter. I made one which would also use 67mm filters. 8 is the backside view of a series 9 made out of ABS plastic and is also a barn door shade. see 1.
