Seeking advice ref Kodak 1 /xrite 810 densitometer

Hi all,
I just received a Kodak model 1 (xrite 810) densitometer and when I turned it on all I get is a message stating "PWR DWN V2B05". Does anyone have the same model and if so is this a normal message? Is there something I need to do to get this thing working properly?

My Xrite 810 has not exhibited that display at any time. I have had to replace the battery before. It may be that your unit has lost memory due to that condition. That is the only thing that I can think of as possible.The battery is a soldered on unit on the printed circuit board.

Not sure if you have one, but the manual can be downloaded from the Xrite site. Google on xrite 810 manual - it's the first in the list of hits. A quick skim through it however does not show that error msg ...

I forgot to mention that Xrite is available by phone if you need to visit with them. They do give some limited guidance. The rebuild of an 810 was $400 and change the last I checked.

Thanks everyone... I think you've got me on the right path.

Don...The battery idea seems like a very plausable one to me. I'll open it up to see if I can find the battery. At this point though I'm not sure I want to spend the $400 for a repair, my wife is already upset with me for buying my photography equipment in the first place. (Don't tell her I bought a broken kodak model 1) ;-)

Bob... Great idea. I did the search and downloaded the manual. I too found no mention of my particular error message. Thanks for the proper wording for the search. I sometimes either constrain my searches too much or not enough and am usually not satisfied with the results.

Greg... I will give Sam a call. Reason being that maybe he can help me with my other 2 broken densitometers. That's right folks, I'm not having much luck buying these things. The first I bought knowing of its condition thinking I could fix it. The second I bought for parts to fix the first one. I gave up on that plan and decided to buy a working one, only to have it arrive and find it not working. Oh well, I must have bad densitometer karma or something. Or maybe someone's telling me to forget all this technical stuff and just go out and shoot pictures!

Howard,

The battery is located on the backside of the rear circuit board. It, at first glance, appears to be a specialty OEM item because of the solder connections but the large chain battery stores seem to carry a replacement battery and the solder terminals can also be soldered to the battery as they are to the board.

When I replaced mine, I thought at first that the battery was a large capacitor, but the voltage and terminal designations should make it apparent to you.
