Over the years I have tried out many films in the dr5chrome process. The results were always extremely good, no matter what kind of film I used (Pan-F, Delta 100, Agfa APX 100, Agfa Scala, T-MAX 100, PX-125, Foma R-100, Efke 25, Maco 25 ORT, Rollei IR 400,...)

I would like to try some Rollei films ( http://macodirect.de/filme-rollei-c-1_6_56.html?language=en ) in the process as well, but therefor I need to know a couple of things :

1. Can they be run at all in the dr5chrome process? (most films can, but a few cannot...)
2. If yes, what is the "normal ISO" in the dr5chrome process? (the ISO in the dr5chrome process is not necessarily the same as the factory speed)

The films I would like to try out are :

- Rollei PAN 25 (not the old Maco/Efke product, but the new Filmotec/Orwo version) (I tried this film once at factory speed ISO 25, but it came out about 1,5 stop underexposed)
- Rollei Superpan 200 (it is mentioned on dr5chrome film review website http://www.dr5.com/blackandwhiteslide/filmreview.html ), but the link appears to be broken)
- Rollei Retro 80 S
- Rollei Retro 400 S (The old Retro 400, being repackaged Agfa APX 400 could not be run in the process, but this is a different film)

Any suggestions?

Jacques

At the risk of stating the obvious, have you tried emailing or phoning dr5chrome direct?

I've found them very helpful and they obviously have a lot of unique experience and knowledge in their type of work. I'm sure they'll have an answer or info which you can rely on.

Their webpage makes it pretty clear which ones they can process with a review. Under that is a list of films they won't process.

Thx!

It is clear for most films, but not for Rollei, at least not for me.

Superpan 200 is on their film review list, but the link to Superpan 200 appears to be broken, so there is no review available. Rollei PAN 25 is also on their film review list, but refers to the old Maco PAN 25 which is a different film. Retro 80 S and Retro 400 S are not on the film review list. None of the films is listed as films which they do not process.

I will e-mail dr5 directly to find out.

Super Pan 200, Retro 80S and Retro 400S are all aviation type films from Gevaert in Belgium. With different suitable developers you can have great results with these films. They are all sensitized till 750nm and therefore also suitable for IR photography. They tend all to a more contrastly negative.

Hi Robert,

Macodirect states that the 400S extends only to 730nm. Do you know if this is wrong?

That Rollei Retro 400S is one of the Maco mysteries:

The resolution, emulsion thickness in combination with the PET base hints at the gone Agfapan APX 400S (APX 400 on PET ),

the spectral range of 380-730 hints at the gone Agfapan APX 200 S,

the spectral sensitivity chart is the same as that of the Aviphot 400 S (Rollei IR 400).
