All,

With the recent thread about "Rodinal" being so "evil" I am curious what films you have used it on. Back in the days I did darkroom work, I used Rodinal and HP5 (I memory serves me). I've recently started shooting B&W again, but haven't develped any. Would you recommend this developer for Delta 100 or Efke PL100, or are there better choices?

Thanks,

I used it with TMX, as a matter of fact the shot I posted of the slot canyon was with rodinal at 1+50, great developer if grain is no objection. I think I will post it again.

My personal favorites are APX100 and PanF+, and of the few rolls of JanC 100 I've developed, they look nice too. Those are my favorites, but I use it on films up to HP5+ (that is if grain isn't a factor). I definitely recommend APX100 though, my personal favorite combination for almost anything. -Grant

I've used it on a lot of films. It works well on many and very well on a few. There are a couple it just doesn't agree with too (my opinion). I like it with Tri-X, FP4+, JandC 200, and I've run a few rolls of JandC Pro 100 in 120 format recently and find it produces nice small sharp grain with this film. Very nice the way I see it. On the other hand I think it's just plain rude to HP5+ and TMY, but I don't use these two films that often anyway. Between Rodinal and PC-TEA I've become, for the most part, a two developer kind of guy.
I've never used it on the Delta stuff. Works well for Efke 100 roll films, but I don't know if it's the same as their sheet film.

How have we used the Rodinal?
(though some have used it not at all);

Tony and Morten waxed poetic
the results, they said, were quite aesthetic!
So off I went to buy the stuff...
a little bottle was quite enough.

for Delta 100 (shot at 50)
I've found that Rodinal is quite nifty;
yet shot at 100 it's quite a strain
unless you like the look of grain.

PanF and Rodinal are meant to be;
They unite for unmatched quality!

Go gently with Acros in the mix
(use 1:70 just for kicks)!

:D :D :D
Sorry...something abot Rodinal brings ot my inner poet! haha :wink:

Oh, please, don't misunderstand me. Rodinal is not 'evil', just over-rated.

When Philosphy mixes with rodinal in areas cranial,
You can be assured they will be exhaausted in areas anal.

Sorry couldn't but help reflect like Jeanette as to the current debates. A year ago it was PMK vs. Pyrocat.

Next year who knows what the favorites will be?

Jeanette,
You Rock!!!
That's the second Rodinal poem that you've written that's made me laugh out loud!
Now I really have to try the stuff ('specially if it helps me to write poetry too)!

I wonder, though, if Michael/Hans appreciates your humour :wink:

Cheers!

Is this the same guy you two have talked about before from the Ilford site?

If so with him as a philosophy major, all I can say is Shades of Fugazi Dave!

Now, if you have seen any of my post you know I like Rodinal..used it with Plus-X, FP4+, Tri-X. It works for me, best at 1:100 stand or semi-stand. Just started using Pyrocat-HD, but nothing to report as of yet...

BTW, the ignore list is working just fine :smile: ... if you know what I mean...

Once upon a midnight dreary
I could not focus, my eyes were bleary

Do not go gently into that good night
Hand me the Rodinal and turn off the light

Into the spirals my KB14 goes
Soon the Rodinal over it flows

On Dasher on Dancer!
On Comet on Blitzen!
In another five minutes
My film'll be a-fixen'!

Poems are made by fools like me
But only Rodinal looks like pee
