I'm rebuilding a D2 enlarger and need a lamp socket for the enlarger bulb.
Harry at classic enlargers wants $35. plus shipping for this socket that proba bly cost $5.
I have tryed all the home centers and hardware stores to no avail. Anybody have any experience with this or suggestion for a replacement.

If there is no way to get one at a hard ware store Buy an old lamp
at a yard sale and remove the fixture. Im sure you could find one at a Good hardware store though, or they could order you one from a supply house.

I bought half a dozen for a far more reasonable price than US$35 each (sorry can't remember the exact price) from the same supplier -- in Australia ---as the lamps, whose (US version) aquaintance you will make soon as well, I'm sure.

Time to move on to the suppliers of professional lamps and luminaires, they may ask you to order a greater quantity than you need immediately, but, given the brittle nature of these ceramic lamp holders, it's handy to have few spares.

disclaimer: I don't own a D2 anymore, like the DeVere better.

What size bulb and base is that socket? I may be able to get you a socket form an electrical supply house. e-mail me at automax1@juno.com

Paul, Thanks for the reply. I think Sat. morning I'll take the old broken socket to the local supply house and see if they can supply a new socket. May try Leviton on line to see if they have an offering. If this doesn't work I'll e-mail a picture with measurements.
Thanks

Sorry, I just threw mine out! Why not use this as a good reason to go for a cold light?

It should not be hard to find an old D2 around for scavenging purposes.

A while ago I wanted to replace the one in my D2 and saw that it does not match anything commonly available (diameter was off). Luckily there is always epoxy.

What I'd be tempted to try is a "specialty shop" that caters to lamp repair. They may have sockets that go beyond what you'll find at a Home Depot or hardware store.
