Hey everyone. I have about 20 Rolls of Reala 100 to process and i bought myself the Tetanal Rapid (2 Bath) Negative Kit.
I`m planning on developing by Hand in my JOBO 250 ml Tank.
I took a Roll of Testshots so i can develop a few Teststrips.
Could anyone give me a rough agitation Routine as the Instructions only seem to give times for machine processing.
Thx Phil

Phil, I have processed plenty of C41 (colour negative) in various machines and also by hand.

I assume that the Tetenal kit has the first bath at 3:15 this is pretty much the most important bath and if you can keep this bath at or reasonably near the Tetenal recommended temperature, you should be alright.

When I'm hand processing I fill the tank quickly, close the lid and do two quick inversions followed by tapping, usually 20 seconds have gone by. At the 1:15 mark I do another inversion, followed by the last inversion at 2:15. At 3:05 I start emptying the developer.

At 3:15 I give a stop bath rinse and continue my process which is different to yours.

I assume the second bath is bleach/fix, follow the instructions and just do an inversion approximately every 30 seconds.

I would strongly suggest that you use gloves, the C41 process isn't kind to your skin and all of my Jobo tanks weep solution eventually, when doing hand processing.

I also live in Melbourne (southern suburbs) you can pm me if you wish.

Mick.

Mick's reply raises some interesting points. Clearly his agitation pattern is much less than that provided by the continuous and quite rapid agitation provided by a Jobo processor. This raises the question of what effect continuous agitation has in colour neg processing compared to hand agitation as described.

In B&W Dave Miller observed that agitation frequency and its vigorousness created a difference of as much as 1/2 a grade in terms of printing all other thing being equal. He was comparing his prints born of gentle agitation of the film to those of Les McLean who used a much more vigorous method.

Is there any comparable effect in colour printing?

Jobo established quite a while ago that a five minute prewet pretty much exactly conteracted the extra agitation supplied by continuous rotation. Or, to put it another way, if you use a five minute prewet, you can use the times published for standard inversion processing. This goes for C41 and E6 as well as black and white. The standard programs for the Jobo automatic processors include a five minute prewet for all the programs, both color and B&W.

This is the first time I've ever heard of this. Interesting info.
