I'd be tempted to find a small air cylinder to fit in the space that was occupied by the solenoid. By attaching an air bulb on the other end of a length of tube, you'd have a simple way of operating the shutter in the field - I have a couple of Luc style shutters that I use the same way. If you don't mind the added complexity of batteries, it wouldn't be too difficult to find a solenoid.
Based on the limited info I can find on these shutters (primarily the
E/40), I'm guessing you have a 100mm opening - That provides scope to use some of the real big barrel lenses....
