    New Year, New Developments

Happy new year from Project Basho. We hope that 2010 will be photographically productive and inspiring for each of you. We have already started working on a couple of new projects.

First, we are working on a studio expansion to create a computer room. This 400 sq ft. room with ten computer stations and several 17-inch printers will replace our current set up and be a dedicated space to accommodate our growing number of digital photography classes and workshops.

Also, we are adding a few interactive features to our website. Starting next month we will feature Basho Notes, a blog by our staff and other contributors on art and photography. We hope this will provide both inspiration and insight.

We are also developing an online calendar to list our classes and workshops as well as the various events at Basho. This way, you can be more aware of both our upcoming and long-range activities. We will also include other photography related events in the Greater Philadelphia area. If you are aware of any such events or exhibitions, please let us know.

We hope that these new features at the studio and on our website will better serve our community. We are looking forward to working with you this year.

    ONWARD '10 Opening Reception: February 6, 2-5pm

ONWARD '10, an exhibition of Project Basho's annual photography competition, will open next week with a reception on Saturday, February 6th from 2-5pm. ONWARD '10 showcases the work of emerging photographers from across the United States and abroad. This year's guest judge, acclaimed documentary photographer, Debbie Fleming Caffery, was given the job of judging 1666 photographs from 418 artists, and arrived at a final show consisting of 73 works by 40 individual artists. A recent interview between Debbie and photographer Diana H. Bloomfield can be found on the ONWARD '10 blog.

We are very pleased with this year's show and we hope you will visit our gallery to see for yourselves.

Winter/Spring Photography Classes Begin This Week

Our Winter/Spring semester of classes and workshops has officially begun!

This semester we have expanded our curriculum to offer a wider range of intermediate-level classes. As a continuation of Photographic Vision Digital I, we are now offering Photographic Vision Digital II, taught by Deanna Whitman. This new intermediate-level class will provide students the opportunity to continue the creative dialogue and gain a deeper understanding of photographic technique. The class will run concurrently with Photographic Vision II.

We have an exciting list of specialty workshops taught by new instructors including Jean Miele's Photoshop in Black and White and Photoshop: The Advanced Course, Clay Harmon's Creating Digital Negatives, Fran Forman's Creating the Digital Montage, and Chuck Kelton's Fine Gelatin Silver Printing.

For more information on all of our classes please visit our classes and workshop page. To register for a class, please fill out our registration form. If you have any questions about upcoming classes or the registration process, feel free to contact us.

    Get Involved

Project Basho is actively seeking volunteers to assist with exhibition coordination, darkroom monitoring, marketing, and other tasks. While these are not paid positions, volunteers have the benefit of having access to our facility and receive discounts on classes and workshops. If you are interested in getting involved, please send us a simple resume and short statement of interest.
