I own a Beseler 45mx with condenser head and 135mm f5.6 enlarging lens. This works great for printing and enlarging 4x5 negatives (created using my Horseman 4X5).
Now, the problem:
I also photograph using the 35mm format. My enlarger is sitting on it's stock baseboard/negative stage. I enjoy making 8X10 (and larger) prints. However I cannot do this for 35mm negatives with my current set-up. I know that I could modify the table the enlarger sits on to give me an adjustable negative stage, lowering it further away from the lens to solve the problem.
The problem specifically: I can't enlarge the 35mm image enough to fill an 8X10 space and focus properly. It's not enlarging enough before I run out of height adjustment.
However I've just completed construction on my darkroom, and spent the last 4 days vaccuming out all the sawdust and other airborne contaminants created by the construction process and I'd prefer to keep it clean of said stuff.
I realize this will be more expensive than modifying the enlarger table - what lens should I be using to solve my problem? Do I go smaller than 135, say down to 90mm or 50mm, or larger, say up to 150mm or larger than that?
I've got some good work that awaits the resolution of this problem. I've been looking for the answer to this specific question on the Net for a few hours, but haven't run into anything that matches my conditions.
