Have just started to get interested in polymer photogravure and just wanted to see what methods other people are using to create their positives for this process. At the moment i am printing using a straight line curve at 80% (gamma 1.5), with nice results but not jaw dropping!.

I recently purchased the PDN ebook and am just wondering how this would work in creating positives for polymer plates. Also how about RNP?If you guys have any tips it would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

David

David,

Susan Voss has been using PDN sucessfully to produce polymer gravures. Here is the link to her blog:

She also posts here on Hybridphoto so I wouldn't be surprised if she replies to your OP.

Best of luck,

Don Bryant

Hi David,

I've been very happy using Mark Nelson's PDN system, and it works great
for making digital positives for gravures. I knew nothing about digital
negatives or curves when I started out, so I had a lot to learn. I had tried
using this person's curve, and that person's curve, and found out the hard
way that I needed my own curve, based on my exact workflow, even down
to the brand and mix of ink I used to ink the intaglio plate. PDN works great
for that.

Susan

Thanks Don and Susan for your post. The PDN system sounds interesting I will really have to get my head down and start reading through all the information from the ebook as it should save me some time in the future. I suppose its good that I am starting at the beginning with PDN rather than having to recalibrate my whole work flow in the middle of another. I am sure there will be many ups and downs with this process but look forward to the challenge!

Great blog Susan, some really good info there. you have inspiried me to try creating a blog as well, i think it will help me chart my progress and push me more to work harder. I think i will do the blog on all alternative photographic processes and see where it leads me.

thanks again
