I'm hopefully going to have some prints to hang up in places soon, and I wanted to know if anyone knew of places to get prints mounted to plexi, sintra, or aluminium in NYC aside from Laumont. Laumont is pretty expensive and I wanted to knwo if anyone knew of any other places to get the same thing done for less. Right now I'm looking at like $105 for a 16x20 on plexi, $119 for aluminium, and $92 for 3mm sintra. Are these really the best bargains I can get for this stuff? Thanks!

There are some nice aluminum mounted prints behind the desk at Duggal. I don't know if they do the mounting themselves, but they could tell you where it's done, if they don't. I've also seen a show of digital work that I think they printed, and it was face mounted on plexi, so they might do that as well.

Hi Grant,

We've had work done by G/L Laminating. I'm not sure of their full range of services. They are in Jamaica, but they will collect and deliver.

G/L Laminating & Mounting Inc
9715 Jamaica Ave
Jamaica, NY 11421

A friend of mine swears by Ken Lieberman, but I've never dared to ask his prices - I suspect that they are in the same league as Laumont.

Best,
Helen

Helen and Davids advice is good, there would be many large labs in NYC that could handle this.

A problem you will encounter is most laminators/Labs are hesitant to take on the mounting responsiblities of work that is not produced by themselves.
At our Lab we would warn you of the possibility of human screw up and if there was , you would be responsible for re printing the work. If we printed the work and then screwed up int the mount we would of course reprint at no charge to you and make good the mount.
I would be suprised that this is not the case in your location.
My advice is to finish the work where the original prints were made.
If they are your own printing, I would be prepared for possible reprints if your lab/laminator of choice screws up.

Erizan Mounting in midtown - the best, most reliable. Modernage does it too, for about the same price as Erizan though I've never used them.

212 997 1800.

People like G/L very much for more traditional framing

UPDATE..my friend's prints that she had mounted at Modernage are peeling off of the sintra 1.5 year later..she's bs over this. Even if they remount for free, she'll need to reprint 9 16x20 prints.
