I'd like to get a list of some publications out there that accept unsolicited submissions. My problem is that I don't have a portfolio of related work just yet, but a few prints that I feel stand on their own. I am aware of publications like lensworks, but they publish portfolios, not single shots. im aware of needing a strong portfolio of related work but at this point I'm not working on any one project.

I'm looking for more publications along the lines of hamburger eyes.

any input would be appreciated

Check out Emulsion. It is a new magazine. Here is an excerpt from the website....

"We are always open to suggestions so if you have a great idea for an article or know of someone who is doing great work, let us know. We'd love to hear from you. Simply write to: editor@emulsionmagazine.org."

editor@emulsionmagazine.org

I would like to send photos to some magazines, but as you see they are looking for "great ideas" and "great work" and my ideas and work are probably not even that "good". The people they choose most always have an interesting Bio.

What the hay? Give em a shout.

You need to check with the publications before sending work. With the exception of Emulsion, I don't know if any still except actual prints, usually preferring images (especially if a whole portfolio) submitted on a CD or other digital media.

I find it rather odd that in the case of a magazine like B&W Photography, they only except work for their contests on CD. If you are not judging an actual physical print (digital or traditional) are you not conducting a "digital file" contest?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd also like to add that photolife magazine accepts single submissions for some of their monthly contests.
