Here was the Phillips 8x10 that just sold on Ebay- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEDW:IT&viewitem=&item=190058196149&rd=1&rd=1

OH! And look at this...the same exact camera, same picture, same description (with a few extra typos!) for only 20 dollars and a 3 day auction!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=260066044448&rd=1&rd=1

Why are some people so stupid? Not only the person who listed this, but anyone that bids on this person items!? Look at what else the seller is selling...its all other expensive items that just ended up Ebay.

I believe that sellers account was hijacked, and someone else listed the items, then they have the person pay them and take off. Another new Ebay scam.

I've had the same problem---All of a sudden I have some auctions running that aren't mine and if you are away from your account and miss them you'll be paying the fee's. Buyers should figure out it's a scam but then maybe not!!

I guess not, because now, JeffoStudMuffin is bidding on it, and he has 600+ feedback and he still does not know its a fake.

Ebay also made it to where you cannot "contact member" anymore, so I cannot email him to tell him the auction is fake.

This same "seller" has been very active of late. One of his other recurrent "listings" is a Technika 23 Vb. I had some fun a few days ago, alerting eBay each time I saw it come up in another guise. Each time eBay responded by taking down the listing, but each time it popped up again under a different hijacked account within a few hours. We went through four rounds of this within 24 hours. I see he's at it again with the Technika, too...

It's not obvious how an account gets hijacked, short of a password getting compromised. OTOH, the ease with which this guy seems to be operating is pretty worrisome...

What is also worrisome is his feedback. Since I can not read French and he "appears" to have a rating of 752 and a 99.9% Positive Feedback this is of real concern. I can not believe that these would be legitimate with starting selling prices that he has for these items. Additionally, what he normally sells and buys seems to have nothing to do with large format cameras.

Um. What's wrong with low starting prices? It seems to have worked fairly well for Dagor77 (I think that's the number), who starts actions at under $1. Personally, I recently started an auction at $50 for a lens that's now over $1000.

There is nothing at all wrong with low start prices, I've seen many eBay auctions with (apparently) identical items where one is collecting bids and another with a high start price doesn't. Sometimes the one with the high start gets no bids through its close, while the other sells at a higher price.
At that point it obviously makes no sense, but that's a common trait of these critters we call "people". Folks like to believe they are getting a bargain.
As to the listing that started this thread, it has been pulled.

Rich, the feedback belongs to the owner of the hijacked account, not to the scammer. So does the history. Clearer now?

Dja ever get a phishing email telling you that your eBay account had been compromised and click on this link now? That's how scamster gets the ids and passwords it uses to post the scam listings.

Cheers,

Dan
