I just got a note from Bill Troop, who is currently in London.

He informs me that he has first hand knowledge that Paterson's products will continue in production. There was a small glitch that halted the production line temporarily, but production is about to resume.

He asked me to post this in his name due to his busy schedule.

Could you clarify whether this includes their chemical products?

Terrific if this is the case, however my understanding was that their chemical products were manufactured by Champion, and that Champion has ceased production in the UK and moved to Spain.

Here is a quote from Bill's e-mail.

"The Paterson line is going to to continue - in its entirety - into the foreseeable future."

This is great if it's true but where does his first hand knowledge come from? To whom has he spoken?

What worries me is that he quotes a production line problem. However as others have said, chemicals weren't produced by Paterson. It was Champion who moved to Spain.

Clearly a move of the chemical company to Spain isn't the problem per se. Plenty of goods travel across the EU everyday. Transport costs are only a small portion of the final product price.

What does makes sense is the owner of Nova Darkroom's explanation which is that Champion were then demanding too large a minimum order quantity from Paterson whose sales weren't high enough to cope with the risk that products would lie on Paterson's shelves beyond their sell by date.

Hopefully Champion or Paterson have resolved the MOQ problems and have offered this "production glitch" explanation as the easiest way to announce a continuation of the chemicals.

As I understand it Roger Hicks has close links with Paterson. Maybe he can shed definitive light on the situation.

Ok, ye that believeth not. Here is more of the e-mail.

I guess my credibility and Bill's are at stake so here goes.

"I spoke to Geoff Crawley, ........ The Paterson line is going to
to continue - in its entirety - into the foreseeable future. Geoff
asked me to post something to that effect, but could you do it for
me? "

So, now you know the source!

Does he have any idea when they'll start shipping the developers again?

Thanks,

Lachlan
