I've just taken delivery of a new Paterson 6 x 6 contact printer and found that the foam bed doesn't fit right up to the hinge section, theres a gap of about 3 to 4cm and doesn't even sit straight either. The supplier tells me that all their stock looks like this, however I have a 35mm Paterson that has the same design and the foam on that fits right up to the hinge section. My concern is that the gap will cause damage to the negs with the pressure of the closed glass top or the paper will not be able to make proper contact with the negs in the gap area. Can any apuggers out there tell me if this is how its supposed to look, it just doesn't make sense to me.
Thanks everyone, Patricia.

Patricia,
My Paterson 6x6 contact printer is exactly as you describe. The foam bed does not come up to the hinge. There is a gap of 3~4 cm. That's the way they are designed. I've been using one for years and never had a problem with it.

Many thanks for your quick response Blighty - good to know all is as it should be but still scratching my head as to why the 35mm design would be different - will file that one in the same drawer as to the whereabouts of flies in winter and sock-eating dryers.
Thanks again. Patricia
