I just spent today in a B&W printing day workshop. Came out with a nice print I'm happy with. But, I forgot a towel..and didn't have apparantly dry enough hands, and I think, I got fixer? on my 11x14 final prints...all three of them but barely noticible on the third. It's a yellowish/brownish stain. I tried rubbing it out gently when in the final wash to no avail.

Any ideas how to get rid of the stain?

Thanks,
Chris

If the stain is only on the white border of the paper and not within the image it can be removed by bleaching, either with potasium ferricyanide or iodine. If you use ferricyanide be careful for it can produce a stain that cannot be removed. The iodine bleach needs to be mixed from two chemicals, I cannot recall the proportions etc for my darkroom is packed away in readiness for a move next week. I'm sure that someone in the group will have the formula. Iodine will not stain permanently which is why I would suggest you use it.

I have found that many modern papers stain very easily.

Thanks Les, yes, fortunately it's on the white boarder. I have some ferricyanide...sounds like I should dilute it out and work up from there.

I'll look around for that iodine bleach first though as it sounds safer.

Thanks again Les!
