I've posted the thread in geographical location forum, but the feedback rate is non-existant there, so I thought since this is the main resource I enjoy from on APUG, albeit OT, trying here might be more effecient.
Here is what it is all about (copied and pasted from Geographical locations forum thread):

Hi.
A friend of mine who also happened to be a fellow photographer has immigrated to Canada few weeks ago. He would be happy to get in touch with local fellows to inquire about the recommended photo supplies sources in his proximity.
His location is : Kelowna or Okanagan area.

If you're willing to help, you contacts (email or/and phone number) will be greatly apperciated.

Thanks in advance, Alex

BC contacts for supplies

Alex, Vancouver, BC is a very large city as is Seattle, Washington. Surely the internet/phone directory would produce the results you seek. All of them would sell via the internet. Moreover, NY prices would compete but California's shipping would be less to BC.

Might depend on shipper but some charge the same for anyplace in the US to anyplace in Canada.

Freestyle is great for stuff that can be shipped ground. So that saves.

OTOH depending on what he needs some Canadian sources exist and they can be cheaper then the US even before shipping. But you have to compare.

Alex what does he need? Give us a list and I'm sure we can all throw out various names.

Thank you guys for the advises.
Well, Nick, he is 35mm shooter, though with "larger" ambitions as most of us used to be before plunging into MF or LF.
So, as usually, film (mostly transparanices), perhaps a good mail order processing, printing supplies, etc...

He will also be looking for a local avid photogs to make a contacts...

With in Canada:

Photoco in Montreal. Good shipping. He'll save PST to.

They won't ship liquid chemistry. You can ask them to order stuff.

JD Photochem

All kinds of chemicals in bulk.

Outside of Canada:

J&C

http://www.jandcphoto.com/

Good prices and shipping but only B&W.

Freestyle

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/sc_main.php

Good cheap shipping to Canada.

B&H

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

More expensive for shipping. OTOH prices are some times cheaper.

Hi Alex,

Your friend will quickly learn that ordering supplies via mail is the norm for many Canadian photographers...I think about 90% of Canadians live in only 8 cities, and the rest of us are sprinkled around the largest country in the world (Russia shrunk right?).

Here's some more places to check out;

www.beauphoto.com (Vancouver)
www.kerrisdalecameras.ca (Vancouver)
www.lensandshutter.com (Vancouver)
www.henrys.com (Ontario)
www.technicare.com (Calgary)
www.vistek.ca (Toronto)
www.photographywest.bc.ca (this ones in Kelowna and sells basic darkroom supplies).

Hope your friend likes his new home!

I'd add that I order as much from the States as from within Canada - J&C Photo and B&H for film. - LF gear from MPEX.com, and Badger Graphics among others.

Also - in Toronto, Eight Elm fro film and paper and also Harry's

And yes, most of us end up ordering by mail - even in bigger centres.

BTW - we are still number two even after the USSR split up... (mind you, when the NWT split into two Territories a few years ago, both halves were sill bigger than Texas  )

Kelowna is prime real estate - beautiful country - lakes and what is virtually desert - half a day from Vancouver and the Coast or the Rockies (and with good skiing int he winter) - and some of the best wine in Canada (indeed - in N. America) - with lots of vineyards with great restaurants to visit...

Woo Hoo Number Two!!! (For the time being...)

Just how BIG is Canada you ask? If you take the distance from the most northern point of land in the arctic to the most southern point on the US border, and then travel that distance south from the Canada-US border where do you end up? The Amazon.
