Time to get this one organized! If you are interested, please cast your votes in the poll. Its a multiple choice poll so you can vote on each question. And if nothing listed strikes your fancy then lease make a suggestion.

Possible Places-My ideas:
  • Topeka area - plenty of opportunities; old downtown, industrial sites, the grain terminals, ect. I'm not the expert in the area though, so you Topeka members chime in with ideas.
  • St. Marys - a charming little town with lots of stone structures and the college campus. The college has a very famous and large dairy barn.
  • Flint Hills - between Topeka and Manhattan. Several good places within easy access of I-70. We could meet at the rest stop just West of Topeka.

Date: I can't make it for another couple weeks due to a weird work schedule. That leaves the 18th as the first weekend for me and I'm flexible. I'm partial to shooting on Sundays because there's far less traffic in the towns but I can live with Saturday too. Would a day during the long Thanksgiving weekend work?

Once we agree on a location, we can pick a meeting place. So, lets hear some ideas.

Hi Alex

I'm very interested, but until the Goodyear strike is settled my schedule is goofy to say the least.

Any of the above are fine with me, grew up in Wabaunsee county, live in central Topeka, work in north Topeka.

I'm torn. My darkroom is under construction and I may not have it completed before the first of the year. I'd have to shoot 35mm this time around...since I can handle that at the university darkroom (Washburn's, which I could probably get folks in to look at if there was time and interest).

Can we do a spring event, maybe Tallgrass Prairie? Or maybe we could work on access at the Santa Fe shops or something interesting like that.

If we drag our feet just long enugh for me to be able to shoot LF, I wouldn't be sad about it.

No reason why we can't do both Fall & Spring!

My vote is for St Mary's and/or the Flint Hills.

I usually have Sunday morning commitments, but might be able to wiggle out. We have family in town Thu and Fri of Thanksgiving weekend, so those days are definitely out for me. The 18th is doable at the moment, 19th less so.

I had hoped to join in, but will have to wait until the Spring event.

I did want to pass along two items of interest to members in the KC area this weekend (Nov 10-12).

Kevin Sink will have his annual holiday show this year at the Sav-Art Gallery (4504 State Line Rd). A very talented LF photographer. www.kevinsink.com

Also this weekend, on Sunday 11/12, from 9:00 to 2:30 there will be camera show at the Overland Park Convention Center (College and Lamar).

Hope the fall shoot goes well.

I'm interested but not Thanksgiving weekend...big family here. Depends on how close it will be to me, if I can get there. Love to though even if I just have medium format.

Alex, I want to attend, but it is entirely dependent upon the strike situation.

I'm getting quite a few hours in the building.

I'll probably just have to watch for starting point and make it if I can.

One more note just to let everyone know: We're meeting at 9 am, Sunday 19 Nov at the I-70 rest stop west of Topeka. If you want to join in and haven't spoke up yet, send me a PM. Its welcome to all.

Whew!

Just got back back home about half an hour ago. What a day! We started out on Deep Creek Road near Manhattan and finished just outside of Eskridge, all in Wabaunsee County. Perfect weather; good sun, clouds were a little scant but they did some interesting things. Shot darn near all my 8x10 holders. It will take me a month to get all of them developed and printed.

Thanks to Chris Pandino, his son Anthony, and Mike Newman for making the trip. I was especially happy that they didn't get on my case for leading them down a trail where only horses or 4WD should go.

Are you kidding?!?! That path that led to nowhere was Anthony's and my favorite spot! Raw and unspoiled Kansas...save for the dung frisbees.:D

I think I got some really good shots there and managed to avoid the numerous cow pies. Anthony was not so fortunate.

Many thanks to Michael and Anthony for their interminable patience as Alex and I fiddled with our squeezeboxes trying to get the focus just right.

Thanks for a great day, Alex. Can't wait to dev & print.

Ahhh, this is one of those small things to be thankful for. The trail markers were well dried rather than fresh and ripe. After all, its Thanksgiving!!

I liked that spot too! A little McGuire's Scratch-X and my clear-coat will be good as new.

I had a great time.

I souped my film today, thereby inaugurating the new darkroom. (the TMAX 100 looks fine, the TMAX 400 looks lousy it's time to test and leave that MDC alone).

Next time I'll bring *my* accordion.
