hi:smile:

i'm new at this. in all ways. i'm a lurker, hence, a 'wannabe' photographer. no, screw that, i am a photographer. i've been taking pictures since i was able to point my finger, which is about the age of 4. my grampa bought me my first camera when i was 6. granted, they've been shiny hot pink 110's and polaroids, but that's something:wink: now i'm just a regular ole 35 mm girl until i can afford medium format, or get the 35 mm thing down:wink: i Love Sally Mann photography, and abhor Ansel Adams (rather, the popularity of him-- he's very talented). i'm currently reading a biography about Diane Arbus, though i must admit, i wasn't a fan of her photography at first. i Love black and white photography, don't know that i'll ever get out of that phase. just bought a digital, or was bought, and just starting to get used to it. the darkroom is much more cathartic than a computer screen to me. don't know all the lingo, want to learn, more than anything. and. . . well, i think that's all.

nice to meet you:wink:

Welcome Talia and Evgeny. With names like those, Apug's exotic quotient just went off the charts. Talia, I'm always pleased to know that there is another woman in our testosterone-rich midsts, and Evgeny, please forgive me for my ignorance of Russian name genders. I find Russian names of both genders to be very beautiful, and perhaps for that reason I too often assume them to be feminine, so I've just stopped guessing.

I wonder how long it takes Morten to get a PM to masochistic_me?

Jay

really...are there more men around here than women? that's a serious question, not a sarcastic one:smile:

and...Morten? huh....

Talia, is the masochistic nickname because of your new digital endevours, because of your darkroom work, because you are suffering for your art, because of a personal reason or just because you like to suffer?
Please clarify!
If you mean leather, hang-cuffs an whips, yes, talk to Morten (modafoto) as Jay mentioned.

In any case welcome to APUG both of you Talia and Evgeny!
We will try to make your sufferings less (or more if your want)!

*laughs* well, plz ask away. masochistic first and foremost just because i first heard the word really in a tori amos song years and years ago as a young oblivious teenager in a small town. its sort of stayed my name since then. there's not much more to it than that, other than, i like words, and that happens to be one that i like. that and ampersand, but, that wouldn't make a very good handle, nor would it get as many questions:wink: i'm sure we're all masochistic at times, i just might be more at times. . . the rest is personal of course:wink: (and btwn my husband and i)

Hi Talia (& Evgeny), welcome.
I think you have great taste in image makers. After seeing an exhibition of her exhibition prints for the first time yesterday, I have a renewed respect for Sally Mann. They were extraordinary.
Best, John.

Auckland Art Gallery - the "New Gallery" that is. Part of the "Mixed Up Childhood" exhibition (not one for the kids).
