Anybody much interested in doing a shoot in the mountains anytime soon? With the holiday season winding down this is a good time to start making plans.

I'm game if we can plan something 2-3 weeks out. Let's figure out a locale and work from there. I'm not familiar with either of the above mentioned places, so I'm game for either.

We have plenty of time. I wanted to get the suggestion out so we can think about what we want to do in time to plan well. Dick Creek is about 20 miles north of Dahlonega off Hwy 19 and Fort Mountain is near Chattsworth.

It would be nice to have a call list for those who find time for a spur of the moment thing and would like company for it. But thats another line of thought entirely.

NOt a bad line of thought, Gary. I almost gave you a ring last weekend, with the fog and all, but then decided I didn't have enough time... I need to get out soon so i can hopefully print some negs for an exchange group.

We are thinking of taking the camper out this weekend somewhere if you want to join us for some shooting. Just need to decide where to go thats wild enough to suit us.

Well, I had to work Saturday, but we knocked off at lunch time so we left for the Chattsworth area to find Mill Creek Falls and log some GPS coords for the area. We also found the parking area to get to Panther Creek Falls and logged that but its a good six mile hike over some difficult terrain. My wife is not capable of handling that so I'm going to need another hiking companion to make it to that one. You really do need to have company for this hike because this is bear and wild hog country and an extra set of eyes is a very good idea.

Mill Creek Falls is more a steep sloping run over most of it and not easy to get a good shot of. We were fortunate to arrive when the light was really good and I got off a half dozen shots before the direct light faded. I will probably go to the dungeon and torture the film tomorrow so I may have something to show for it in a few days.

Ok, so this thread has languished long enough. I say we just pick a date and go, otherwise it'll be 90 degrees + before we know it. I know my next 2 weekends are open, though next week might be a bit quick for enough people to juggle. How about we plan into the "mountains" either Sat 15th or Sun 16th? I don't much care where we go, what we shoot, I just want to get out of my routine and expose some film. Wish I didn't always have to schedule for reasonable chunks of time - oh well. Who's game?

I'll be game for that. What would you say to me bringing the camper out to, say, the Waters Creek area? Theres several good waterfalls and other cascades out there. Unless you can think of a better place to go shoot.
It'd be fun to get a bunch of us together for a camping overnighter in some good place, think you could do that?

Sounds great to me, though I'll have to consult with 'the boss'. Under normal circumstances it might be out of the question with the kids, her work, etc. However, as she'll be undergoing foot surgery the following Thursday with a 2 week recovery, perhaps I can work out a pre-emptive payback... I'll let ya know.

Just looked at the Calendar, and realized the 16th is Easter. I know we'll have plans for late lunch, and the Easter bunny always needs help hiding eggs, not to mention all the kid pictures I'll be taking during the search and rescue operation. I'd guess we'll have a lower turnout that day as well. 15th then, at least for me.

If the weather and work permits, leave Friday night, shoot Saturday morning till we get tired of looking at the area. Get back home early enough to get settled in for Easter. Think the kids would like camping?

Sounds great to me. Still need to check. I'd love to take at least one of the kids camping, 2 is definately out of the question going solo. Might take some persuation, with both the wife and the participating child... So long as their only demand is a film based camera I might be OK.

The overnight is a no-go for me heading into Easter. However, if you 2 decide to go overnight, I'll simply wake up very early and meet you Sat. AM. Waters Creek sounds great, I've not been there, so it'll all be new to me. I don't think it's over a 90 minute ride, so I could be there by 7-7:30 easily.

Care to share some of those GPS coordinates? I'm not sure I'd be able to make it down next weekend, but I'd definitely like to get in some waterfall shots when I do make it down there. I'm in Nashville, so there's some driving involved. Weekends are my only time away and even then, not every weekend. From what I saw of the area in my recent move from south FL to TN, northern GA is nice. I'd like to do some exploring. Knowing where to look helps!
Thanks in advance.

If you know your way onto hwy 411 around Chatsworth, this is north of the city past Eton on Grassy Street, west side of the road, go across the tracks to find Mill Creek Rd on the right. My coords are 34degrees 53.650N 84degrees 40.251W

Yep, the road is FS 64. There'll be a small wooden sign on the corner, the road is on the left hand side. If you reach Turners Corner you've gone too far. Theres several places to camp there, we may be fairly far back past the second waterfall area. If you remember our silver Xterra, look for that attached to a popup camper on steroids.

Silver XTerra/Camper/Steriods.
.check.

I'll shoot for 7:30 or before, no later than 8 calculating from a 90 minute drive. Any odds on cell phone reception? I'm guessing no.

Work is threatening to screw our plans. I'll let you know as soon as I know. As far as I can tell theres no cell phone reception there, mountains have it surrounded.

Well they finally got through with thier hemming and hawing and yes, we have to work this weekend. You know how to get to the site so I'd recommend you go and explore. If you can find another Apugger to go with you it'd be better. Otherwise I'm open to a reschedule. It's a bummer, the weather being so nice!
