If that is true could be awesome!
But who will make those Cosina?
They alreayd have the Voigtlander lenses for any mount, so it maybe a natural step.

What an interesting development. Could there in the future be some Contax MM lenses available after all contractual obligations are met with Kyrocera?

Will ther be a new camera introduced by Zeiss or Cosina that has an MM mount?

Intrigueing development.

You can already mount Contax MM lenses on a Canon -- but not a Nikon.

I do it daily -- my Elan has a 50 f/1.4 Planar on it right this second.

quite frankly while I love my Blad glass, I am also very happy with my Nikkor glass. can't see me running out to put Zeiss lenses on my Nikon.

I was leafing thru a large hardback book put out by Life magazine featuring all their photographers. The photos were stunning in many cases. Most of them were made using lenses that today would be scoffed at. Just goes to show, at least to me anyway, what the priority should be. Great content, good composition and proper exposure.

Yes, there are several Voightlander designs produced by Cosina in the Nikon F mount.

See: http://www.cameraquest.com/inventor.htm

Cosina is also producing a series of M Leica mount lenses of Zeiss design - complete with the Zeiss Marque

This is dangerous for my fiscal well being, now I will need an FM2 or an F3 to run with these Lenses. I presently shoot with non AI glass.

If you're shooting non-AI lenses, why would you need an FM2 or F3? If it's a matter of metering prongs, those are easily added if not supplied...

I find this to be an interesting development, but I wonder how it will work out financially. I love Zeiss glass, but I've never been able to justify the cost of the lenses except on the used market.

Given the high quality of Nikons prime lenses, it's going to be hard for many to justify the higher price for Zeiss lenses. I suspect that the Zeiss lenses will be significantly more expensive than their Nikkor counterparts. With the used market flooded with manual focus F-mount lenses (which the Zeiss lenses appear to be, although there's no confirmation that they won't be autofocus), Zeiss is up against some strong competition in the marketplace.

Making the lenses in F-mount makes good sense, as many Nikon bodies and most Canon bodies can meter with an F-mount lens attached. (This is one of the truly strange things about the camera market...if you want a cheap camera that will meter with your manual focus Nikkor lenses, you buy a Canon body and a cheap adapter. Nikon saves metering with MF lenses for more expensive cameras.)

Having said all of this, I'm sure there will be some lenses in the Zeiss lineup that I'll lust after. From the graphics that have appeared on the web, it looks like one of the new lenses will be a Zeiss 85mm f/1.4. Nikon makes a lens with similar numbers, but the Zeiss/Rollei 85/1.4 is an astoundingly good lens. Zeiss also makes some spectacular wide angle glass that would be fun to own.

Still, Zeiss lenses are likely to command Zeiss prices. The Zeiss 50mm f/2 in Leica M-mount goes for USD600, whereas a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 goes for less than half that much. The spread for 28mm f/2.8 lenses is even greater. I can't imagine that the F-mount Zeiss lenses will cost much less than the M-mount lenses, although Zeiss may surprise me.

I've always wanted to mount Zeiss lenses on my Nikon body, but something tells me it'll be price-prohibitive to do so. Perhaps I'll treat myself to one Zeiss lens in the future.

We certainly live in interesting times...

Be well.

I had a coversation with Stephen Gandy (of cameraquest) a couple days ago. Stephen said that the new 35mm SLR mount Zeiss/Cosina lenses will start arriving sometime late in January. The first ones will be in Nikon F mounts, and other mounts will follow.

$$$?

Are there any news as far as the price goes? Zeiss glass does not exactly have the reputation of being affordable. However, 45mm Planar for my G2 was only $300 and it's possibly the best lens I own.

Cosina has the prices in Yen up on their web site. (I don't have the link, but a little searching should turn up the pages pretty easily.) Converting the Yen prices to US dollars brought the 50/1.4 in under $500 and the 85/1.4 in under $1000.

If Zeiss sells the 85/1.4 for under $1000 and it's as good as the Rollei lens (I suspect it will be at least that good) then they'll have Nikon beat on both quality and price for that lens. (The Nikon lens has autofocus and communicates with the camera body, which will make it worth more to some.) I hope that the 50mm lens comes in at a much lower price though...both the Nikon 50/1.4 and the G-series 45/2 are much less expensive.

Fingers crossed...the Zeiss lenses may be reasonably priced.
