New Rollei films

Rollei (Braunschweig) are introducing together with Maco five new B&W films:

With the already known Rollei R3 they have in total 6 B&W films in different formats.

PAN 25
Ortho (till 600nm, iso 25)
Infrared (iso 400 - 820nm)
Retro 100
Retro 400

Interesting is the I.R. film which will become available in 35mm, 120 rolfilm and 4X5".

Trial test kits are also available.

Robert, I read thart a couple of weeks ago from a Spanish website.
Are these just rebranded MACO films?
Or are they specially made films?

I asked Rollei for the marketing information to build in our website (Dutch).

Information should be available on the Rollei website and Maco and Maco's dealers website soon.

Last 3 films are made by Agfa in Belgium, the I.R. special for Rollei and Maco. First 3 Rollei films are made in Germany. All 120 rollfilms are packed in Hungary.
Maco left the production lines in Croatia (Efke) so I think you can speak of some new films, yes.

Retro suggests it's an existing film. Most interesting are the I.R. -400 and the Pan 25 which seems to be new films. We received today testkits of all new Rollei films in 35mm except the Ortho which is not in production yet.
Rollei/Maco seems to be interested in the gaps leaving by Kodak (HIE) and some others.

This nice beechwood box from Bayern is cheeper in production than 6 different seperate paper packings for these films. In my price list the prices of R3 are unchanged pro 10 135-36 or 12 120 rolfilms in this box.
12x 120 rolfilm R3 at Eur. 4,10 will be the same price for 1 box with 12x 120 rolfilm R3 (Eur. 49,20 - Our Fotohuis prices -). So this box is for "free", for storing your negatives, pencils, post stamps, whatever, so what's the big deal?

I wish you people would stop tormenting me with all this fun looking stuff! How's a newbie supposed to keep things simple with this kind of thing being dragged in front of me? It's a crying shame. Good thing I'm broke

FWIW, I like the box. If it's really cheaper than the cardboard then I'd like to know who the supplier is. I'm working on a direct mail piece for work and this might be really cool.

Ask Rollei, I know it is supplied from a German company near Ausburg. (Or buy a lot of Rollei films ).

Six different films means six different printed card boxes, I suppose the minimum will be around 20.000 pcs. each.
One (all the same boxes) 10X 135-36 or 12X 120 rollfilms. Film production is going to be smaller and smaller in the future, so here is a possible cheaper solution.

I did! And I like it. Very nice indeed, especially in a hand-held Bessa-L.

Did you also had the possibility to test the PAN25 film?

No, it was only the IR. Surprisingly fine and "tight" grain when developed in Neofin, I had expected a lot more grain. Tonality was very nice too, and the sharpness was stunning (but that could well be the 21mm color-skopar).

I am glad to hear that the wooden box doesn't inflate the price -- I'd hate it to a a pretentious cost-inflator for the sake of pointless status, like a Leica "anniversary" box, the boxes for elaborate specialty Barbie dolls (often 50% of the mfgr'ing price or more is in the display box!) or a BMW

Don't take things granted yet. There is at this point no one who actually know which film is which, Except Maco and Rollei
I asked if the IR film was the same as the Maco film Ole and some other APUGgers tested a while ago. To me that sounded logic but so far just speculation. Another speculation could be if the Pan 25 is an Efke or a new APX25. I DID NOT WRITE THAT

I just received the technical data for this film (PAN25). The sensitivity goes up to 650 nm, so I do not expect a Efke emulsion. Maco left the OEM business with Efke so it is something else.
APX25 technology has been terminated by Agfa (Photo) and Gevaert so this seems to be also not really logical.
But I have some test films here and if I like it, I put it on our website for selling. There are not so much iso 25 films left on the market and the availability of this Rollei PAN25 in 135-36 and 120 rolfilm is OK to our product line.
