Ive been watching this site for over a year and I'd just like to say that I appreciate what you guys do very much! I have been shooting 4x5 and contact printing for about 16months now (i dont have access to a darkroom and cant afford an enlarger). I have been using tmax100 film and tmaxrs developer in a jobo cpp2 that was given to me by a friend who no longer shoots. I have been looking to switch to Pyrocat-HD, but I have no experience with any film but tmax100. I would really love to try Efke 100, and was wondering how well the film would work with pyrocat-HD.. Also, what is a good starting point with the combination in terms of temperature/development times ?

I've been experimenting with various films in Rodinal lately and have found that the "Massive Chart" info has been very accurate in my darkroom.

From my reading and single experience of APX100... many ISO 100 films seem to do OK in Pyrocat-HD at 20C for about 12 minutes so you can try that and adjust as necessary to suit your processes. Pyrocat works fine in a Jobo though you may want to use a slow speed to reduce oxidisation worries.

From my personal experience, Efke 100 works wonderfully well in Pyrocat-HD.

For examples, look at The Contact Printers Guild in the APUG Sponsor's Section. George Provost and Francesco Cicoli Abad both show stunning examples of Azo contact prints made from Efke 100 developed in Pyrocat-HD.

I rate my 8X10 Efke 100 PL @ ASA 100. I develop it with Pyrocat HD 2:2:100 for 9 1/2 minutes @ 72° in Jobo Expert tanks in a Jobo CPA machine. I plan for rather robust negs that will print on AZO. All I can say about Tmax 100 is I've tried many times to like the stuff and it just doesn't get the job done for me. All the info gets stacked up at the top whereas with the Efke I'm seeing a beautiful range of tones throughout. Another thing I noticed is a couple of films I'd written off as boring like Bergger 200 and Ilford HP5 just come to life with the Pcat HD. Many thanks to Sandy King for sharing this developer with the community. So after you switch and get the bugs out come back and let us know how much fun you're having.

I am indeed looking to switch films. I am going to try efke pl100 and pyrocat-hd.
I just ordered some of both, cant wait to get started.. thanks for the help everyone

I have used PL100 for a while now, and occasionally PL25, in several different developers. They work very well in Pyrocat-HD, give great results in Beutler's, are easy to "compress" by stand development in FX-2, hold an astoning exposure range in Windisch's Compensating Pyrocatechin, and so on.

I can give no times, since I develop by inspection...
