Need help badly!! Bad bad week with the hasselblads!!!!

Well I just don tget it I baby my stuff and today I was up on the Sonora pass and this shot I wanted I pulled out my 150! My workhorse lens. And guess what the shutter ring froze. And I turned it! And now it doesnt work!

So in one week I lost a back and now my 150... Does anyone know how much this may cost? Also how is the best place to send this in to. I was thinking of going directly to hasselblad and fedex it over night as I need it for a job next weekend.

I would overnight the lens directly to hasselblad in in NJ. But you need to follow up and make sure they can get it fixed right away. Sometimes they take a little bit of prodding but always come through.

You may be able to get fast turnaround repair sevice from one of these service centers. I have no personal experience with any of them.

How good are these guys in Thousands oaks? I wanted to have it ready to ship by the morning as there is no fedex near me and they pick up around 11am and I have to cal it in tonight.

Also any idea about what it will cost for a CF lens shutter repair? I can have it packaged up and ready to go. I have a wedding to cover on the 22nd and I use the 150 quite a bit. I could also you the 80 and just crop but I like to keep it tight..

I have my lenses rebuilt every couple of years.

What you have is a relatively small problem and will probably run between $150 and $200.

What causes the shutter to fail on a lens?

In extreme cases the blades can seize up, but in your case it is probably just that these lenses need some moving parts like springs replaced.

Amount of use and preventative maintenance.

$150 every couple of years is a small price to pay.

I tell you this the quality of the lenses are superior. Their sharpess, contrast are just amazing. I have never been so happy with a system that like Michael said it is no big deal every few years to have to spend a $100 or $200 for maintenance..

Not to have an argument or anything like that, but I used to print in commercial labs for years, 8x10 negs/chromes (cibachrome), 4x5, 6x6, 6x4.5, 35mm and I can tell you that the 6x6 was always sharper and had more contrast than the 6x4.5 version. I am not naming brands but I am naming film sizes. Every time we came across well-exposed chromes/BW, negs the 6x6 was always sharper and more contrast than the 6x6. Now the 6x7 format also produces excellent results as well.

I am just speaking from printing experience and looking at thousands and thousands of slides of different formats. This is why years ago I went with the 6x6 instead of the 6x4.5 format because of the picture quality the 6x6 and above produces.

I based my decision back them on image quality and print quality. Then before I made the purchase I rented the different formats and printed them from 8x10 up to 30x40 for comparison and again the 6x6 and 6x7 formats prevailed every time in both sharpness and contrast.

I really liked the 6x4.5 at the time but what I saw convinced me otherwise.
