Hello friends,

I'd like to do something other than stash my cyanotype and ziatype prints in a manilla folder, but I have not seen any information on how most folks mount heavy-weight papers (like platinotype, watercolor, etc.).

Do you simply crop a boarder around the print and then stick it down on some 4ply board via mt5? What are the best options you've seen or used?

I mount my pt/pd prints on board using "dimensionally stable, pH neutral adhesive tape" also known as Scotch magic mending tape. I use a "T hinge" mounting where a small piece of tape is mounted on the back of the print and extends about 3/4" above the top corners of the print. Another longer piece crosses the "T" and tapes the tape to the bottom board. I wouldn't use dry mount, adhesive or anything that permanently attaches the image to the board.

The big question is how big to cut the window matte. I don't mask around the image, so my photos show the coating rod outline. So, you have the choice to show the full coated (rough edged) area, only show a small 1/4" black margin around the image, or crop to the image edge. I've used all three....

That's my opinion. You should have at least one opinion for every person that posts...

You have many options, but I would not consider manila folders one of them. If you feel compeled to use a box, get an archival box and interleve each print with archival paper.

For mounting it really depends on the size of your print and look you're trying to achieve. Dry mounting is one option, but I would never use it with vellum type papers.

Hinging is another option when used with an overmat as are corners, but it depends on the size of your print and the paper.

I generally prefer an overmat, but I know many people that don't. Lots of folks don't like dry mounting because it's rarely reversible. Dry mounting a print leaving a 1-2" border on the print that isn't covered by the dry mount tissue creates an interesting effect.

You have many options you just need to decide what suits your style.

I use Clear Corners from Light Impressions which makes mounting extremely quick, easy, and archival.
