Michelle Bates is a champion of the alternative ( or "toy") camera genre, noted especially for her work with the all-plastic Holga camera. Her award-winning pictures have been featured and published across the nation, most recently in her new book "Plastic Cameras: Toying with Creativity," considered by many the definitive primer for the world of toy camera photography.

Michelle's images evoke a multitude of emotions: from poignancy to whimsy to ethereal. They are in a sense a throwback to days when photography was considered more of a joyous activity than a specialized craft. Her work shows how the limitations of the plastic camera are actually liberating; they force the viewer to concentrate on the composition and theme of the picture, rather than the technical aspects of it. This exhibition is the first of its kind at the Creative Center for Photography, and promises to be an exciting journey into the world of "Holgagraphy".
