Mamiya Rb67 Lens Stuck

I want to replace the 127mm lens on my RB67 to a 90mm but I can't get the $$^%%@!! off. I followed the instructions in the manual and the dang blasted thing wont come off. Okay excuse my language.

I am trying to exchange the 127mm lens and after following the instructions, I still cannot remove it. I have read the manual ten times.

Any ideas?

I know this may sound stupid but you did "cock" the shutter right?
I know, I know, you read the manual. I have found the 90mm I have tends to stick. It could be tight threads on the collar. I do not recommend using a pipe wrench!
If it really is an internal problem, the wrench could ruin the threads and/or inner workings. If I was to get totally desperate and didn't want to take it to a shop, I might (not that I'm admitting this of course) try lightly applying a pipe wrench. If it still didn't budge, take it to a shop.

I followed the instructions in the manual, but I will try one more time. In the morning, I plan to take it to my local photo shop.

ya, the only time I had issues with lens removal was because of not cocking the shutter... - perhaps it hasn't cocked properly ? I own an RZ so its the same with lens mounts, but what I suggest may work different with RB - however: try tripping the shutter (removing the back , or somehow keep the dark slide in), stick it on multiple exposure (so as not to advance the unexposed frame) and cock it again ?

There is a way to get a locked lens off. Looking at the front of the lens. The right triangle of leather where it says PRO-S has to be peeled off. There is a little hole where you can put a paper clip in to push the lock down as you turn the retainer ring. Once you get the red beads lined up, still pushing the lock down, wiggle the lens off carefully as it will catch the lip of the mount as you get it off.

Happy Camper -- Hold Shutter Lever Foward

Yeaaaaa, I can change my lens at will now. Key is to hold the shutter lever forward, while turniing the lens ring counterclockwise.

Ok I tried all that and I can't get my 90 kl off of my pro sd body. This is so lame....

BTW there is no hole on the pro sd body!!

@TimVance Just make it clear even after so long time. There is a hole on Pro SD as well as it is on Pro S. You gonna have to tear more of the leather. When you uncover enough to see little screw, the hole will be right next to it very close to the ring. You can try to find it with needle without tearing, which might be harder to manipulate but would work if you are patient enough...

Tim, there are two different front panels which may be fitted on a Pro SD, a fact I learned only recently despite owning RB's for years & having been a repairer myself until 2000.
One is the same as on the Pro S and the advice already given is good.
The other type apparently has an all-plastic front cover and the "Pro SD" badge just clicks off to reveal the hole. Both types look the same - I believe the plastic version must be later than the metal one.
A straightened-out paper clip or similar is pushed gently towards the centre of the lens to trip the release. There is nothing inside that will be damaged, just keep trying slightly different directions & twisting the locking ring. A slight curve to the paper clip helps.

Jazzmechanic, your symptom indicates that the cocking ring of your body isn't reaching the correct angle when cocked - when this happens it's not usually long before the shutter starts missing.
The small gear below the cocking ring which drives it is often the first to fail, the teeth wear away.
It can be examined by removing the small screws holding the front panel.
Not all the teeth are used and a repairer can extend its life easily by rotating it to use previously unused teeth if a spare gear is unavailable or if money or time are at issue.
Takes less than an hour if it's done before further failure.

I want to personally thank you for the advice on this issue! it worked perfectly on my jammed mamiya RB67 Pro S I must have erroneously put on my lens un cocked on the non cocked body when it jammed. I was cautious not to force anything. and now it works again! I know your help just saved me a bunch of money better spent on gear! APUG RULES!!!! Your advice has been GOLDEN in my circumstance and I am back in action!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
