I just recently picked up a Mamiya 645 and am confused on which cable release adapter is compatible. Are both the RC402 and RC401 compatible? Or only the RC401?

The RC401 was made for the 645 Super and Pro. The RC402 was introduced for the 645 ProTL. Difference is that the RC401 had the cable release socket at a right angle to the camera body. The RC402 has the cable release socket heading straight out parallel with the body. Mamiya cautioned that the RC401 was not to be used on the 645 ProTL, most likely because of the slightly different form factor of the body since it had a flash TTL connector right next to the remote release socket. SO, you could use either with the 645 Super, depending on what direction you want your cable release to protrude from the body.

In addition to the RC401 and RC 402, you can use the terminal adapter RA-401, which is designed to be used with the left hand trigger grip. You cannot use terminal adapter RA-402, because the shape of the 645 Super body near the connection point has a different curve than the 645 Pro or Pro-Tl bodies.
