M42 to Nikon, two questions

Hi to all,

does anybody use such a thing and can answer me two questions ?

1 = Where to get such an adapter and how much is it ?

2 = How works it on a F80, does the light metering work, stopped down ?
The F80 seems to be a special beast in this context, different from the 75
and 100 ?

I think the Russian/Ukraine sellers have them but they don't make infinity. Price IIRC was less then $30. No idea on metering.

The F80 only meters with AF-D and AF-S lenses. Nikon wants you to buy their new lenses instead of using the old AI/AI-s lenses...

I don`t think it will work with M42 lenses anyway, as the distance from glass to film plane on Nikon is too short to use with adaptors/other lenses.
While you can use Nikon glass on a Canon EOS with adaptor, it`s not possible the other way around.

The lightmetering was what I was not sure about ! The adapter works if it has an optical element as I just learned,, It compensates the gap from 45.5 to 46.5mm registration distance an thus makes infinity focussing possible.

If the light meter won't work, well that's getting a bit too manual for me.
The other prob is that there is no focussing aid on the screen, a really serious prob. Best I'd invest in a new Bessaflex for $ 290 and get rid this way of all this hassle.

I bought one such adapter on ebay for I think like $10. It did have that optical element but I took it out. I use mine in combination with a M39 to M42 adapter to mount my enlarging lens on the Nikon bellow. For this application it works well and didn't need the optical element.
If the optical element allows you to focus to infinity with an M42 lens then you can use it on the N80. Of course, with no metering whatsoever. But if you're interest is in using strange lenses then metering should not be of concern.
