In the last couple of years I found here in Italy and on the international auction market numerous Russian large format lenses.
Industar f4,5 300 is the more common and it is a Tessar design.
What puzzle me are the following lenses:
LOMO RF lenses (RF-3 10/300, RF-4 10/360 and RF-5 10/450)
LOMO 11M lenses (9/300, 9/360 and 9/450)
They are different in shape and therefore in design, LOMO RF seems C-Claron while LOMO 11M seems Apo-Ronar.
Now I see another LOMO Lens RF-240 5.6/240 to complicate the situation.
Someone has more informations about these lenses and design?
I remember some Russian Apugers, they could kindly help?
Thanks
Daniele

Daniele,

I am glad to help you - please, do a search on APUG for "Industar-11M" and see, I've posted lots of information about both I-11M (Apo-Tessar clone) and RF (dialyte) lens ranges. Both kinds are excellent process lenses, so if they're cheap, don't hesitate to get the ones you need.

Cheers from Moscow, Zhenya

Zhenya, it pains me to disagree with you, but I think you're mistaken about the RFs' design. I have an RF-5, have taken it apart for cleaning. It is not a dialyte, it is a 4/4 double Gauss.

Daniele, design is irrelevant, don't let that sway you. The C-Claron you mentioned is a 6/4 Plasmat, is typically sold in barrel with fixed aperture. The Apo-Ronar is a dialyte.

I've shot my RF-5 (450/10) against 420/9 and 480/9 Apo-Nikkors, both dialytes. I think the Apo-Nikkors are a little better, but if I had only the RF-5 I wouldn't feel horribly deprived.

These days many lenses in this class sell at quite low prices. I paid $50 for my RF-5 at a camera show, $64 including postage for the 420/9, and $120 including postage for the 480/9.

Cheers,

Dan

The Lomo process lenses I am aware of are the following: The 11M series are Apo-Tessar types, the RF1,3,4, and 5 are double Gauss types as Dan said (but not wide angle double Gauss, its a regular 46° angle). There is a long focus series, called O-2, which actually is a dialyte, and an RF-240 which is a Plasmat.

Oh yes, friends, thank you for your corrections - I wanted to write the same, but I was too sleepy  You're completely right about the lens types, that's me stupid
