I had several private e-mails (many thanks), and wanted to tell people that yes - Lenswork magazine, latest issue, did indeed show up at my local Chapters book store this past week. Yeah! So did the most recent version of View Camera magazine. Yeah!

The only downer (other than the fact these magazines seem to show up here about two weeks after everybody else gets them) was the line up at starbucks was about 15 people long and I was pressed for time, so no venti latte that day.

My only major compliant aobut Lenworks was - it's too short! Yes, I suppose I'll have to get the CD version some day, but you know the problem there - you cannot read the CD version while soaking in the bathtub.

( yes, I know, lattes, Lenswork and old bathtubs - my decadence know no bounds... )

One serious question - my copy of Lenswrok says, on the inside cover "Printed in Canada". True? If so - and I am not kidding - this would explain why it shows up here on the store shelves so much longer than it does everywhere else. Kinda like how it's sometimes easier to buy Canadian Salmon or Canadian Redwood lumber in the USA than it is locally.....

Distribution chains know no logic. News stands often get copies first just because they are in an organisation optimised for rapid delivery. Mailed copies have to go from printer to distributor to one or more mail services. Periodical deliveries in California can be slow because of the local postal practice. I have to make a point of not reading the Lenswork spoilers here until my subscription copy arrives!

On the other hand, a letter from my mother can take anything from 72 hours (the current record) to a calendar week to get from SE England to the San Francisco Bay Area. Not bad for two postal services and an airline

I think it might be difficult to find Canadian Redwood Lumber anywhere!

Yup...Hemlock printing.

It's amazing they're still in business because a bunch of their employees won millions on the lottery a while back.

Aren't there some redwoods in front of the fine arts library at UBC?

Then again...I've seen palm trees in Vancouver too.
