I'm interested in looking at some large format black and white studio portraits.
Can you recommend a website or two.
Thanks.

I know Sanders has one but I'm too lazy to go look  He's in the member directory.

As an aside. I finally got around to printing one of the 8x10 negatives I made with your help using your camera way back when at the Zions workshop. Two weeks after making that print I got an 8x10 2D. When my wife yells at me I'll blame it on you

I'm in the process of rebuilding my web site. For now, you can find samples of my portraits in 4x5 and 5x7 (which involve nudity, so beware if that bothers you) at www.mcnew.net/portraits and www.mcnew.net/new.

Sanders.

Try to find a copy of "Your Friends and Mine" by Kenny Rogers
It's a big hardbound book full of celebrity portraits shot mostly on 8x10 or 4x5 color and b/w film. The book is full of beautiful portraits of T.V. and movie stars, many of whom are no longer living as the book was published 20 or so years ago. Rogers discusses what format and film he used for each portrait as well as how the scene was set up and what it was like working with the various stars. Kenny Rogers may not be my favorite actor or singer but his photography (portraiture at least) is definitely top-shelf.

If you're interested in the Hollywood style, here's a good Hurrell site--

http://www.lafterhall.com/hurrell.html

Here's a good collection of Karsh portraits--

http://www.eastman.org/ne/mismi3/karsh_sld00001.html

Of course there's Dead Link Removed

And there are many photographic portraits at--

http://www.npg.org.uk/live/index.asp

And you can even order digital prints of anything in their collection. I have one from Julia Margaret Cameron. Obviously, they're not as impressive as the originals, but they are generally better than reproductions in books.

And about that 8x10.... let her yell at me, won't be the first time, but it was for a good cause wasn't it.
