Hi everyone, my name is Tiberiu and just recently, 5 years ago started learning developing my own film, been doing experiments with bnw, c41, ecn-2 and now got some expired stock from 1970, kodak 5251 emulsion, found out used to be developed in ecn-1 at 22C so I tried ECN-2 20C 22 minutes with a 7 min bleach/fix using the cinestill simplified kit but didn't have good results at all, negative very thin and grainy, tried at 41 and it completely wiped the film at 25 had images but all reticulated then tried a roll in D76 for 9 minutes and that worked great. Anyone have any suggestions on how to develop this film? would even go into mixing my own chemicals, found a small bottle of CD-2 on ebay assuming that was the one used back then, also I have a kit of orwo c9165 and c5168 I will be mixing soon to develop some old orwo film with, was thinking of trying a roll in that as well. Attached here a couple scans of my results so far with this experiments on the emulsion. Of course please disregard the stains as I did not bother properly rinsing the film as I notice results were not great.
Thank you.

ECN2 came out in the mid 1970s, so any ECN film is over 40 years old. (ANd it was very good when fresh) and yes, the ecn process was at a lower temperature so the older film may not stand up to running it in ECN2, or C-41

IN fact 5251 was all done by 1969... (

Eastman Color Negative, type 5251 Year 1962 – 1969 )

2023-1969 is 54 years. that film is due for a retirement pension

Correct, I mentioned expiration date was 1970 as stated on the sealed and boxed canisters, considering the age in my opinion it's condition is exceptional, at least this first can, somewhere I was reading that the reason why it got retired was that it was very inconsistent so we shall see :D

You can find in the link below a mention in page 138 to the ECN films that seem they were processed in a developer containing something similar to CD-3.

E6 and RA4 CD contain CD-3.

Thank you, I have a batch of E6 chemicals, I'll mix that up on the weekend and give it a try in that, now it makes sense why the ORWO slides were coming out halfway decent in E6 and way better than the negatives or slides in C41

Very interested in how it went developing in E6? I have a 400gft of Eastman 5254 which I have cross processed in C-41 which went somewhat well considering it's age
