The 36th JCC Photography Show opened last night. The Jewish Community Center of Cleveland, 26001 South Woodland Road, Beachwood, Ohio. This is the largest photographic show for Ohio residents in northern Ohio. Last years winner was a digital color image from the president of the Cleveland camera club. This year there were 400 entrants, 45 got in with 70 images. The judge Andrew Borowiec teaches B&W film photography at the University of Akron and has won a Guggenheim Fellowship.
This years winner Jerald Brodkey is even older than I (66) am, shoots two Dick Phillips cameras (8x10 & 7x17), won with a 7x17 platinum print, was talking Pyrocat to anybody who would listen, convinced me to use a Jobo three years ago. That is my kind of winner. The image was a delicate water and shore landscape.
There was an even split digital vs silver, three platinum and one Ambrotype. Last year had a better turn out for alternative processes. The show is open until May 14th if you can make it to Cleveland.
