Hi there.

Mini-bio:

Name: James
Age: 23
Location: Nottingham, UK
Occupation: Civil Engineering student/weekend office drone
Equipment: Hasselblad 1000F

I have been into photography as a hobby since about 2005 - played around with a canon P&S for a year or so before buying the Nikon, and I have never looked back since. I like shooting landscapes, portraits, and candid-style shots, although I really don't make enough time to get out and use this wonderful piece of machinery.

My first foray into using film is because I bought a 1954 1000F on impulse not too long ago... bit of a culture shock compared to the Nikon D50, but I'm loving every minute of it (even though it's rapidly making me the poorest person on the planet).

Not sure how to continue, so the floor is open for a not of Q&A! :D

The only three words of advice applicable at this point are: shoot, shoot and shoot.

Oh, and welcome to APUG. You couldn't have found a better place to get involved.

Oh gosh, I looked at your picture and thought my son had joined... except that he hates cameras! Anyway, welcome from a mother in NC.

Hiya James from N. Lancs. In at the deep-end? Nah! You've just landed in the best analogue resource bar none. Enjoy it and ask loads of questions. Regards, B.

James,

As a CE student I'm sure you're also interested architectural design. Before you know it you'll be deeply into LF or ULF. One cannot control perspective without Scheimpflug corrections. You'll be even poorer for a time but take heart... you'll be displaying your own works in the buildings you design in no time.

Oh... and welcome!!

James, welcome. Mike is probably right, but good news, there's lots of Large Format gear to be had at reasonable prices. Want to buy a 4x5? It would go good with your Hassleblad. :D
