I've been gifted with drums and a motor made by the Simmard Photo Equip Company, big label on the side ..."Simmacolour"....
I've never seen Jobos, but I assume these are basically the same thing.

I'd like to use them for developing 8x10 film. How developer should I use?

The drums are 11.5cmx23cm (one sheet)
18cmx31cm (2 sheets)
18cmx58cm (4 sheets)

Thanks in advance

Pyrocat-HD is great with rotary development. A lot depends on the film you are using though. You are planning to do rotary development right?

I'm happy with 510 pyro and HC110 for HP5 in 4x5 on a unicolor base, assume 8x10 is same film.

Film currently in holders is HP5+. I was planning to use d-76. I was looking for advise on how much developer to use with each size.

Whilst the minimum volume that can be used in the drums is likely to be pretty small (the large JOBO print drums I use for 5x7 film require a minimum volume of 100 ml), the general recommendation with D-76 would be to use 250 ml of undiluted developer for each 80 square inches of film (i.e. per roll of 135/120/sheet of 8x10). Larger volumes than this will probably give more consistent results.

So for the 11.5x23 cm sheets (about 40 sqin), you could get away with 125 ml stock D-76 per sheet (it will give more consistent results if you can use more than this per sheet, say 200 ml).

For the 18x58 cm (about 160 sqin), you would need 500 ml stock D-76.

And for the 18x31 cm (about 84 sqin), I would suggest using a minimum of 300 ml stock D-76.

Thanks Snallan. That's the info I was looking for. I have used them a couple of times. I didn't want to have uneven development, so was using as much as I would have if I was tray developing - pretty close to your recommendation. Just wanted to know if I was using ridiculously too much.

One of these days I'll get around to trying pyro developers. I'm assuming I can't get pyro in Vancouver and will have to order from the States. Maybe next time I have to make an order to B&S.
